Hunter rushed forward and shoved him away. Chase wasn’t as strong as Hunter and staggered back, but he pointed at Nina, seething.

“Nina, you’re really something. Playing dirty like this. Is the Tann family trying to destroy the Mercer family?”

He had just gotten a call from the school office–his mother was on the line, crying so hard she could barely speak.

The court was going to seize all their property tomorrow.

And it was all because of the Tann family.

By now, more and more students had gathered, and whispers started spreading through the crowd.

“The Tann family? Do they mean the Tanns from Linholt?”

“Wait–does that mean Nina’s the Tann family’s daughter? With that kind of status, why didn’t they send her abroad?”

“No wonder she could casually lend out over three hundred thousand before, and gets picked up in luxury cars every day. She really is a rich heiress.”

Hunter couldn’t help giving Nina another look. He hadn’t expected that–Nina was actually the Tann family’s daughter.

“Nina, you’re really vicious. What are you trying to do? If you can’t have me, you’ll just ruin me?” Chase snapped.

Hunter let out a short laugh, as he’d just heard a joke. “Chase, you’re not even part of the Mercer family anymore. What does any of this have to do with you? Besides, Nina already has Jensen–why would she want you?”

Nina had been about to argue back, and the first half of what Hunter said made sense–but the second half threw her completely.

What did he mean she already had Jensen? Where did that even come from?

“I’m talking to Nina. This has nothing to do with you,” Chase shot back, eyes blazing.

Nina stepped around Hunter, who had been shielding her, and faced Chase directly. “Chase, your family borrowed money from ours and can’t pay it back. According to the contract, the collateral gets auctioned to settle the debt. So what’s with the attitude? Are we supposed to just let it slide? That’s two hundred million. You’ve got some nerve.”

“You-!”

Before Chase could explode, the murmurs around them grew louder.

“Two hundred million?!”

“So that recent comeback from the Mercers was funded by a loan from the Tann family?”

“They’ve got the nerve not to pay it back? That’s shameless.”

The voices only fueled Chase’s anger.

Nina glanced around, then said coolly, “Hear that, Chase? You’re still in high school, but even you should understand–debts have to be repaid. If you had any backbone, you wouldn’t have borrowed from us in the first place. Our family helped you out, and not only are you ungrateful, but you’re also turning around and blaming us. The Mercer family really doesn’t know how to repay kindness.”

“Nina, this was all your doing! And you still have the nerve to act righteous about it!”

“I had my father lend you real money, and you call that acting righteous?” Nina said flatly. “Instead of arguing with me, you’d be better off figuring out how to repay it. The auction’s at noon tomorrow–after that, you really won’t have anywhere to go.”

With that, Nina turned and led Hunter away from the restroom.

Chase felt the strength drain out of his body, his legs unsteady beneath him.

If the Mercer family’s assets were auctioned off… would he be left with nothing?

Back in Class A, the moment Nina walked in, her classmates rushed over.

“Nina! Are you really the Tann family’s daughter? Why didn’t you ever say anything?”
