Thinking about everything she’d suffered at the hands of Chase and Katrina in her past life, Nina felt a flicker of satisfaction.

At noon, Chase stood outside Class A’s classroom. The students who used to fawn over him now kept their distance.

“Nina, is Chase out there waiting for you?”

Charlotte had spotted him earlier. He’d been standing there the whole time, making no move to come in.

By now, everyone knew Katrina wasn’t really a Sawyer. Meanwhile, Nina had revealed her identity as the Tann family’s daughter, grown more beautiful, and climbed to the top of the class rankings. Plenty of people at school had a crush on her–but she wasn’t interested in any of them.

Nina noticed Jensen pause mid–problem beside her. “If Chase is here for me, it’s probably about the Mercer house. It doesn’t really have anything to do with me.”

It sounded more like she was explaining it to Jensen.

Charlotte, however, said, “I heard Chase and Katrina are living together. If he’s here to see you, wouldn’t Katrina go crazy?”

Katrina used to treat Chase like he was everything. If any girl got close to him, she’d lose it with jealousy. Now he was standing outside Class A without a word, and Katrina was nowhere in sight.

Nina said, “Exactly. So why don’t you help me get rid of him?”

“Me?”

“Yeah.” Nina nodded. “Just tell him I’m busy and don’t want to be disturbed.”

“But didn’t you use to like him? Aren’t you happy he came to see you?”

At that, Jensen’s pen stopped again.

Seeing that, Nina quickly said, “That was in the past. Don’t bring it up.”

“Alright, I’ll pass on the message.”

Charlotte walked over to the door.

Chase frowned when he saw her. “What do you want?”

“Nina asked me to tell you she’s busy and doesn’t want to be disturbed.”

His expression darkened. “Who said I came to see her?”

He glanced into the classroom, then turned and walked away.

Charlotte blinked.

Not here for Nina?

He sure left fast for someone who wasn’t just rejected.

In the classroom, Nina worked through her exercises, glancing at Jensen out of the corner of her eye. “Were you upset just now?”

“No.”

His answer was brief.

“That thing with Chase–it’s in the past. I know you don’t like him. I don’t like him either.”

“Mm.”

“You’ve seemed off lately. Is something bothering you?”

“…No.”

When it was clear he didn’t want to talk, Nina let it drop.

Just then, her phone rang in her pocket. She pulled it out and saw it was a call from the family’s security team, so she answered.

“Hello?”

“Ms. Tann, just as you predicted, a crazy woman snuck into the yard. What should we do–call the police?”

Nina smiled. She’d expected Cecilia to try something like this–she just hadn’t thought she’d

act so soon.

“Hold her and send her to the police station. Say she broke in to steal and you caught her.”
