Cecilia rolled her eyes dramatically. “All the more reason you shouldn’t be driving! If you’re pregnant, you should stay home and focus on having my grandchild. Chase already got himself kicked out of school because of you. Selling a car to support you is more than he owes you!”
She turned to Chase. “I’m making the call. The car is being sold.”
And living in this rundown place was already unbearable–if they had to move somewhere even smaller, she’d rather die.
Chase hesitated, glancing at Cecilia. “Mom… if we sell the car, we’ll also have to move out of this place.”
“What? Move? Where to?” A bad feeling crept into Cecilia’s chest.
“Somewhere smaller, but cheaper,” Chase said. “Katrina’s pregnant. We need money for supplements, regular checkups, and the delivery. Everything costs money. We have to cut expenses wherever we can. I’ve already arranged it–we’re moving tomorrow.”
The moment she heard that, Cecilia’s face went stiff.
Katrina was even more furious. She pounded her fists against Chase’s chest. “Chase! What did you promise me before? You said we wouldn’t have to move! I’m not leaving. I refuse!”
This location, this house–it was everything she’d dreamed of.
She’d only lived here a little over a month. She didn’t want to leave. She didn’t want to go to some cramped, staged apartment.
“It’s over… it’s all over…”
Cecilia’s eyes rolled back as she collapsed backward.
At school, plenty of students still followed Chase and Katrina on Instagram.
“I heard Chase sold his car. And they’re living out in the suburbs now–life’s pretty rough.”
“Yeah. It’s been, what, five months? I heard she’s already showing.”
“They’re constantly fighting on Instagram. They’re not even using matching profile pics anymore.”
