I still couldn’t wrap my head around how that tiny Omega had the nerve to look me in the eye and tell me she wasn’t coming with me.
Mc.
The Alpha of this entire damned city.
Sitting right across from her, watching the whole scene unfold-Maya giving Kael these soft little smiles at his stupid jokes, sipping that ridiculously decorated drink that the bastard Vicent had sent over.
“A pretty drink for a pretty girl.”
The note was still there, crumpled beside her glass like it was merking me.
Vicent knew exactly who she was with. He saw my Beta sitting beside her. And still, the idiot decided to act like a mutt in heat of course he saw her. I’d bet my own title he ordered that drink just because he knew it would get under my skin. He’d lived for that since we were old enough to stand upright-competing for attention, for strength, for the respect of every Alpha in this territory. We never had issues over women…
Until today
Kael was waving his hands around like a lunatic in the middle of some idiotic story about a guy who tried jumping off a roof into a wagon full of hay. He was talking to Maya as if they’d known each other for years-comfortable, relaxed, far too familiar with someone he’d just met. And she was listening to him with shining eyes, soaking up every detail as if she were already used to his nonsense.
And then the fool bounced. Maya, I swear, he hit the ground lika frog. We laughed at him all year!”
She covered her mouth, horrified.
“Oh my God did he break anything?”
“Unfortunately not.” Kael puffed out his chest, proud of someone else’s disaster. “Just his dignity.”
She let out a small laugh-too soft, too easy. My jaw locked. Kad realizing he’d won points, leaned even closer. The idiot didn’t understand boundaries.
“See I knew that was your real laugh-not the polite one.” he teased, propping his elbow on the table. Then, sliding into a change of subject so smooth he didn’t even notice, he asked, “Wat about you? Anyone who used to do dumb stuff around you growing up? One of your sisters… Isabella, maybe?”
Her smile faltered. A shadow passed through her eyes-those eyes that always seemed to avoid mine.
Kael realized it too late.
Damn, Said the wrong thing
Maya just looked away and took another sip of the drink. That dank The drink sent by my enemy
You seem to like it,” I said, keeping my voice neutral.
“I do.” She took another sip, slow, deliberate-like even the movement of her lips was meant to challenge me With Kael she smiled. With me, she barely answered.

You should be more careful with what you accept without asking. Basic protocol-you don’t take anything from strangers.” I lifted my beer to my mouth.
The air at the table shifted immediately Silas muttered beside me:
“Relax, Atila it’s just a drink, not a marriage proposal. You’re staring at that glass like you’re about to start a war.”
And Kael, the idiot, added:
“We really should’ve brought a leash today… and not for Maya.”
Both grinned like the irritating bastards they were, and Maya raised one eyebrow.
“Techmcally, it isn’t a drink from a stranger, Alpha Atila. The man who wrote the note only paid for it. Someone from the kitchen made it. Should I start worrying about everything served at this table too?”
My friends made that low, mocking sound only a group of obno ious males could produce. I met her almond eyes head-on. She wanted to provoke me.
And she was doing an excellent job.
Too excellent.
But I wasn’t letting her have the last word.
“My apologies then.” I leaned in, elbows on the table. “It’s just th after your little jealous outburst at my house earlier, I figured 1 should return the favor. My duty is to keep my guest sale.”
“What? Me Jealous of you?” Her eyes shot wide, genuinely offended.
“You thought I was going to a brothel carlier. Ring any bells?”
“I never said that!” She nearly choked.
“But you thought it.”
Her mouth opened, closed-lost. Kael slapped the table, laughin
“Incredible. Atila was single yesterday and today he’s fighting like he’s been married for thirty years. I’m getting another beer.”
“Shut up, Kael,” Cassian muttered, not even looking up from his glass. Even irritated, he looked like royalty
I stood. I’d tolerated enough.
“Let’s go. Time to head home”
She blinked
“What home?”
“Mine Where you’re staying And I don’t allow my guests to wander back at whatever hour they please
She stared at me like I’d lost my mind Maybe had. Maybe it was impossible to keep control with her sitting there smelling sweet and tempting while Vicent circled the place like a vulture:
“Fine I’ll go” Her voice softened, embarrassed. “But only because I don’t have anywhere else to sleep. Tomorrow I’ll look for my own place”

Something in my chest snapped.
No
Nowhere else
No one gets near her
No one gets the right to take her out of my sight.
Miss Langford raised her hand cheerfully.
“I think I’ll stay here with the boys.
Maya tried to murmur something, but Langford pretended not hear. Good. Perfect.
I lifted my chin at Maya.
“Shall we?”
She let out a long, reluctant sigh.
“Yes, sir

We walked side by side, the silence between us burning like a live ember. The moment we stepped outside, she sped up on the sidewalk and headed in the wrong direction-whether on purpose or not, hard to tell.
“Where are you going?” I asked calmly
She stopped so abruptly she nearly growled.
“My house is that way” I pointed with my chin..
She almost rolled her eyes before turning around and marching he correct way without a word
