Chapter 59

– ÁTILA

“Damn it.”

I slammed the door behind me harder than I meant to. The sound cracked through the house, echoing off the walls-sharp, violent-yet it still wasn’t enough to knock the image out of my head.

She’d put that damn necklace back on.

I dragged a hand down my face, my fingers scraping through my beard, then started pacing like another room might give me an answer. Like moving my body could move the anger out of my chest.

It didn’t.

I dropped onto the couch and stared at nothing, breathing heavy, forcing myself not to let the wolf take the wheel.

And then it hit me.

If she was on the Stones’ farm…

Cassian.

That bastard.

He knew. He’d known the whole time and never said a word. Son of a-

She was too close to him.

That’s why he kept it from me. He was taking advantage of it.

I wasn’t going to accept that.

Not ever.

The moment I crossed through the Stone family gate, the quiet greeted me like a warning.

Damp earth. Old wood. Fresh-cut grass.

Moonlight painted the stone path, and the main house rose ahead-too massive to be called a home, too imposing to be anything but a statement.

I stopped at the bottom of the steps, one hand braced on my hip as I looked up.

That’s when the front door opened.

Mr. Stone appeared like he’d been waiting. He stepped down slowly, leaning on a cane, but his posture was still that of a man who owned every inch of land around him. His eyes swept over me without hurry-like age had taken his speed, but not his authority

He stopped a few feet away.

Chapter 59

“Alpha Atila… what an honor to have you on my property. Cassian just left.”

“I’m not here for Cassian.” My voice was calm, controlled. “I’m here to speak with you.”

Stone lifted an eyebrow, suspicion settling in instantly.

“With me?” He shifted more weight onto the cane. “And what exactly do you want?”

“I’m here to retrieve one of your employees.” I didn’t soften it. “I’ve been informed she works on your farm, but she’s under my custody. That makes it my responsibility to keep her safe in Moonville.”

Stone let out a short laugh-dry, humorless.

“Custody?” He shook his head slowly. “Since when did you become a judge?”

“Since I was the one who pulled her out of a place where she could’ve ended up dead.”

The laugh died in his throat.

Stone’s gaze sharpened.

“Alright.” He took a slow breath. “What’s the girl’s name?”

I opened my mouth to answer-

And nothing came out.

Because I heard it first.

Hooves pounding the ground behind the house. Steady. Rhythmic. Closing in fast.

And with it….

A scent.

Sweet.

Warm.

Unmistakable.

It hit me deep-hooked into something primal and yanked hard, dragging me to a place where logic didn’t exist.

I turned my head.

And it was like the world slowed down.

She appeared on the dirt path astride a dark horse, back straight, posture confident-too confident for the girl 1 remembered trembling just to meet my eyes weeks ago.

The denim jumpsuit hugged her waist in a way that should’ve been illegal, and the wind played with her loose hair, tossing strands that shimmered under the moonlight.

She looked…

Untouchable.

Chapter 59

And it struck me like a punch to the ribs.

Beside her rode another woman on a white horse. Redhead. Sharp eyes. Perfect posture-like she’d spent half her life in a saddle.

They slowed to a stop near the steps, both staring in our direction like they were trying to figure out what the hell I was doing there.

Mr. Stone addressed the redhead.

“Hello, Beatrice. Is there a problem?”

Beatrice glanced at Stone, then at me, thrown off. Then she looked back at him, urgency slipping into her voice.

“There’s an issue near the eastern pasture line. One of the fences gave out and some of the animals wandered too close to the woods. Maya and I came to report it and ask for help.”

Stone exhaled, his expression tightening slightly, already calculating the work ahead.

Alright.” He nodded. “I’ll send Joe and Marco with rope and stakes. And get Raul to bring the ATV and flashlights. No one goes into the woods alone.”

Beatrice nodded immediately, already turning her horse to follow orders.

But I couldn’t take my eyes off Maya.

She looked away.

And I kept watching.

Because there it was.

That necklace.

The chain gleaming tight against her skin, the blue stone glowing like a threat.

Stone turned back to me, as if he’d finally remembered I was still standing there.

Can we continue this conversation later, Atila?” His tone stayed formal, firm. “As you heard, I need to deal with this now.

But if you’d like to stay and speak to whoever you came to speak to… feel free. Make yourself at home.”

tipped my head in acknowledgment.

Alright, Stone. Thank you.”
