Chapter 2
Evelyn quickly raised her hand to cover the words on the box, pressing it down before he could open
Her hand rested on top of his-and that’s when she noticed it.
Wrapped around his left wrist was a bracelet, crudely made from a bra strap.
Disgust churned in her stomach. Her brows furrowed deeply in revulsion.
“Evelyn, is this a gift you prepared for me?” Dante didn’t notice the change in her expression.
Instead, a flicker of joy lit up his face.
Evelyn forced a smile, cold and hollow, and said, “Yes, but you can’t open it yet. I’m still preparing
the second gift. I’ll give you both gifts in seven days. Knowing you, I think you’ll like them.”
“Double surprise in seven days?” Dante felt a flicker of excitement, but then paused, his mind
running through the days.
Suddenly, it clicked, and he hurriedly mind-linked his beta, Thorne:
“Seven days from now is Evelyn’s birthday! Why didn’t you remind me? Go ahead and arrange a grand birthday party, the bigger the better.”
As Dante gave the order, he didn’t notice Evelyn standing by the door. She had also overheard through the pack link, and her face remained icy, devoid of any warmth.
In seven years of being mates, Dante had never forgotten her birthday.
This year, after Natalia returned to the pack, he had completely forgotten about Evelyn’s birthday.
Well, it would be interesting to see his reaction when she doesn’t show up at the birthday party. She’d make sure his grand party went to waste.
Evelyn took out her phone and sent a message to Ophelia: “Find out where Dante is holding my birthday party, Arrange for the wedding venue to be right across from the party.”
“Got it, Luna.”
Evelyn turned to head to the bathroom, and Dante was about to go back to the bedroom when he
received another call from Thorne.
“By the way, Dante, don’t forget, you need to take Luna to her favorite cake shop in town today. If she doesn’t get her cake, she’ll be upset tonight.”

“Good job, I almost forgot. Order the cake according to Evelyn’s preferences. I’ll take her there.”
Dante quickly pushed open the bedroom door.
Evelyn overheard every word.
Dante took her bathrobe from her hands and set it aside. “Let’s go. Mrs. Caelum made your favorite
cake.”
That bakery in town was a place she loved.
It was where she and Dante had first met, after a small incident in front of it.
That bakery held memories-their first meeting, their mating anniversaries.
Dante used to remember without reminders. Now it needed Thorne to remind him.
An hour later, they arrived at the bakery.
An hour later, they arrived. As they walked in, Dante noticed her loose shoelace and knelt to tie it.
Mrs. Caelum, standing at the door, saw this and joked, “You two just can’t keep your hands off each other, huh?”
Evelyn looked at Dante kneeling in front of her, then replied with a smile, but her smile didn’t reach
her eyes.
Dante led her inside and sat at their usual window-side spot.
He turned to Mrs. Caelum. “Is the red velvet ready? With ‘Happy 5th Mating Anniversary’ written
on top?”
“Freshly made,” Mrs. Caelum said with a smile.
She mentioned that she had just been telling her mate that even though it was past nine, they were sure to come in for their mating anniversary, for Alpha Dante and Luna Evelyn’s relationship was
as strong as ever.
Mrs. Caelum brought out the cake, her face full of smiles.
“Five years, and Alpha Dante loves his Luna so much. When will you bless the pack with a future heir?”
Dante’s expression darkened. “That’s not for you to comment on.”
Evelyn glanced at him, immediately understanding the reason behind his sudden anger.
