The Rejected Luna (Avery and Kaden) novel Chapter 113

Chapter 6

Felicity frowned, pressing a hand to Evelyn’s forehead. “You’re not… upset? Did the fever scramble your brain?”

A ghost of a smile touched Evelyn’s lips. “Three years ago, Dante accidentally ate witch’s fruit. The

pack physician confirmed it caused permanent sterility.”

It had been three years, and she still hadn’t been able to get pregnant.

She’d protected his pride all this time. She had asked the pack doctor to cover it up, telling others

that she just needed to get her health in order to conceive.

Now, Dante was thrilled to be a father. All the careful secrets she’d kept for the past three years felt

utterly foolish.

“Wow! This is huge!” Felicity exclaimed, practically jumping up.

She rubbed her hands together, her eyebrows raised. “I’ve got an idea. Evelyn, in five days, we’ll go to Crisantia to settle down. We’ll act like we know nothing. Once Natalia has the baby, we’ll send Dante his medical results. I want to see if he’ll regret it and lose his mind when he finds out.”

The next morning, Dante didn’t show up at the hospital.

In the afternoon, Ophelia came to Evelyn’s room to update her on the wedding preparations. Afterward, she hesitated, glancing at Evelyn.

“Just say it,” Evelyn said, furrowing her brow.

Ophelia, carefully watching Evelyn, whispered, “At lunch, Dante asked me to deliver some documents to the pack house. When I got there, I saw Natalia wearing pajamas, sitting on the living room couch in Luna’s house. Luna, you’ve always been kind to me, so I couldn’t just ignore this. I thought you should know.”

Ice flooded Evelyn’s veins.

She was still hospitalized, and Natalia had already moved into her home?

No wonder Dante had insisted on picking her up-he needed time to hide the evidence.

“I see. Thank you.”

Evelyn grabbed her phone from the table and opened the surveillance footage.

The screen was completely black, likely because Dante had already covered the camera.

Evelyn furrowed her brow, glancing at Ophelia, who had yet to leave.

“Tonight, I’ll have someone distract Dante and Natalia. You contact them to install the surveillance

cameras-be discreet.”

The next day, Evelyn reviewed the surveillance footage.

Natalia and Dante were having lunch at her house.

Natalia sat at the spot Evelyn usually sat, complaining that she couldn’t eat because of her

pregnancy.

Dante patiently fed her, coaxing her to eat. “Be good, take care of yourself. After you have the baby,

I’ll find a way to have Evelyn accept our child as her godson.”

Half an hour later, Natalia pushed back from the table, overstuffed and smug as she cradled her

nonexistent bump, sauntering upstairs with exaggerated waddles.

Dante called the housemaids over, speaking in a low voice. “Natalia’s condition makes her

temperamental. You will tolerate her demands without complaint. And when Evelyn returns-not a

word about her living here.”

“Yes, Alpha.”

Evelyn watched the surveillance footage calmly.

“Ophelia,” she said, her voice like honed steel, “prepare the wedding invitations. I’ll finalize the guest list today.”

The next day marked the third day of the countdown to Evelyn’s departure.

Early in the morning, Dante came to visit her.

After he left, Elder Elias of the pack came to her hospital room.

“Luna, the bond-breaking agreement between you and Dante has officially taken effect.”

“Thank you,” Evelyn replied, glancing at the bond-breaking deal before turning to Ophelia beside her. “Put it in the second mating gift box.”

Today was the final day before Evelyn’s departure.

At dawn, Dante arrived to pick her up from the hospital.

In the car, he buckled her seatbelt gently and said in a soft voice: “Evelyn, today’s your birthday.

I’ve already planned a birthday party-it starts at 7 p.m. Don’t forget to invite your best friends.”

“Alright,” she replied.

The black sedan drove into the pack territory.

After four days away, Evelyn returned to the place she once called home.

Everything was exactly as she had left it before being hospitalized as if Natalia had never been there

at all.

Evelyn walked into the master bedroom and saw a lipstick sat on the vanity.

She gave it a glance.

It’s a Guerlain 539, but it’s been used.

That deliberately left-behind lipstick felt like a silent provocation.

Evelyn didn’t stay in the bedroom for long before a maid called her downstairs for dinner.

At the dining table, Dante peeled a lobster and brought a piece to her lips.

Evelyn chewed slowly, then looked into Dante’s affectionate eyes and suddenly asked: “If, just hypothetically, one day you dreamed I left you, would you be sad?”

Dante froze, his hand still holding the lobster. His face tightened as he reached for her hand.

“Evelyn, I wouldn’t just be sad. I’d go insane. Please don’t leave me.”

Evelyn pursed her lips. Just as she was about to speak again, Dante’s phone vibrated on the table.

She glanced at the screen.

It was a message from Natalia: “I’m bleeding down there… It hurts so much. Is something wrong with the baby…?”

A flicker of panic flashed through Dante’s dark eyes. He quickly stood up.

“Evelyn, there’s a problem with the birthday setup. I need to go handle it. I’ll come pick you up for

the party later.”

He turned to leave, but Evelyn gently grabbed his hand and gave him a soft smile.

“Goodbye, Dante.”

Dante froze and turned sharply. Looking at the calm woman in front of him, he felt a chill run through him.
