The Rejected Luna (Avery and Kaden) novel Chapter 189

**Between the Wings of Twilight Lies the Memory of You**
*by Liren Ava Roen*

I held the small carvings tightly in my grasp, my fingers gliding over their familiar contours as if they were a map of my memories. A wave of tension that had settled on my face gradually melted away, replaced by a hesitant smile that I offered to him. It felt like a fragile truce, a momentary peace amidst the brewing storm of emotions.

“Okay,” I finally replied, my voice barely above a whisper.

“You!” Wendy’s face twisted in rage, her features contorting into a mask of disbelief and fury. “You two know each other?” Her voice was sharp, cutting through the air like a knife.

Antonia bit her lip, the weight of the moment pressing down on her. “Wendy, I was just about to tell you,” she said, her tone laced with a hint of urgency.

Wendy’s gaze darted to Antonia, her eyes blazing with accusation, as if she were trying to pin the blame squarely on her.

Antonia recoiled slightly, the tension between them palpable, before turning her focus back to me. “Zephyra, you were asking about the dragon, right? My mother has it. But she’s hidden it away in a place you’ll never discover. However,” she paused, her voice dipping conspiratorially, “if you introduce Wendy to Horace, I might just be swayed to retrieve it for you.”

Wendy coughed, a sound that seemed to clear her throat of her frustration. She straightened herself, casting a gaze filled with affection towards Horace. “Your name is Horace? That’s a lovely name,” she said, her voice dripping with sweetness.

I couldn’t help but scoff at the absurdity of it all. Even if Horace were in search of a companion, it certainly wouldn’t be someone like Wendy.

“Why would I introduce him to someone as despicable as you? You should really advise your mother to return my belongings. If any of my mother’s possessions are damaged in the process, I will ensure her golden years turn into a nightmare.” My words hung in the air, heavy with the weight of my threat.

In that moment, a flicker of light danced in Horace’s dark eyes, a spark of satisfaction illuminating his otherwise stoic expression.

Wendy, clearly flustered, stomped her foot in exasperation. “What’s wrong with me, Zephyra? You watch your mouth!” Her voice wavered, a mix of anger and disbelief.

“She’s right!” Antonia piped up, her tone now sharper, as if she were relishing the moment. “You’re the shameless one, Zephyra. You want everything for yourself. You already have Steven, but you want to keep Horace on a string too. Don’t you have any shame?”

With a sudden shift, she turned her attention to Horace, her voice dripping with insincerity. “Horace, I know your family isn’t as well-off as Steven’s, but you’re quite handsome. You have a promising future ahead of you. Zephyra is a married woman. Doesn’t it sting to be her second choice?”
