The Rejected Luna (Avery and Kaden) novel Chapter 6

**Chapter 6**

I emerged from the depths of my memories, my gaze steady as it fell upon Adrian.

“Alpha,” I said, my voice calm yet firm, “we ended things ten years ago.”

His brow furrowed, confusion mingling with something deeper in his eyes. “I don’t understand what you’re trying to do now,” he replied, his tone laced with desperation.

I took a breath, steadying myself against the weight of the past. “If there’s nothing else, please don’t disturb my life again.”

I watched as Adrian’s knuckles turned white, his fists clenching tightly at his sides. “I’m sorry… what I did ten years ago was unforgivable. I was a bastard,” he admitted, the words spilling out like a confession he had long buried.

The old Adrian would never have uttered such sentiments—never once had he offered an apology. In the past, when I confronted him, he wore an air of self-righteousness, dismissing my pain as if it were inconsequential. This sudden admission of guilt felt surreal, like hearing a faint echo from a distant past I thought I had left behind.

“I see,” I replied, my smile tinged with bitterness. “But it’s unnecessary. More than an apology, I’d rather we remain strangers forever.”

My intention to sever any remaining ties was unmistakable, yet Adrian remained frozen, his expression as pale as the winter sky outside.

Just then, the bell above the door jingled, shattering the tension in the air. Mike barged in, a woman trailing closely behind him.

I nodded in her direction, recognizing her instantly. “Luna Juliet.”

The moment our eyes met, Luna Juliet’s expression shifted, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. “Hazel… why won’t you call me Mom anymore?”

She took a step forward, arms outstretched, yearning for a connection that had long since frayed. I sidestepped, avoiding her embrace as if it were a live wire.

Her hand hung suspended in the air, trembling with uncertainty. “You still hate us, don’t you?” she asked, her voice a fragile whisper.

I caught a glimpse of Mike behind her, his eyes squeezed shut, anguish etched across his features.
