Chapter 5
Since they had no shame, I figured I’d help them lose face in the most spectacular way possible.
High-end auctions always have professional appraisers on-site, and the Emerald Jade Bangle Ethan
submitted was quickly evaluated.
It was, indeed, worth three hundred million.
With both parties passing the fund verification, the auction proceeded into the next round.
A few minutes later, Suite Eight raised their paddle. “62.61 million!”
The audience murmured among themselves.
“Didn’t he say he’d go up by 2.14 million every time? Why not this time?”
“She really pulled it off-forcing him to skip the 2.14 million jump!”
Tyler Brooks, Ethan’s assistant, glanced disdainfully at the speaker, nose raised high.
“Our boss says 214 is nice and all, but he prefers something a little more eternal.”
“This time, he’s adding 8.31 million.”
The crowd immediately caught the reference and burst into flattery.
“Ethan really is New York’s top-tier elite. Generous and sharp!”
“No matter what she bids, he can keep alternating between 2.14 and 8.31 million to dodge those unlucky
fours!”
Suddenly, Ethan was a genius again.
Some praised his strategic mind. Others praised his spending power-after all, his raises were all in the tens
of millions.
But all I felt was fury rising in my chest. Generous? Of course he was-he was using my money.
Rubbing my temples, I turned to my assistant. “Calculate everything from the past few years. I want a full report on how much Ethan has spent on Roxie.”
“I want every last cent back.”
After that bid, I stayed silent.
The crowd grew puzzled again.
“She looked like she had endless money earlier. What now, she can’t keep up?”
“Probably got scared by Mr. Grant’s bold raise. That kind of money… some people wouldn’t earn it in a

lifetime.”
“What’s she stalling for? I’m trying to watch a good show here. If she can’t afford it, she should just admit
defeat.”
Tyler chimed in, dripping with smugness.
“Our boss said, if it makes his beloved happy, it’s not just tens of millions-he could put up billions.”
As the jeers continued, the auction consultant came rushing downstairs, wiping sweat from his brow.
“She says Mr. Grant’s fund verification is still questionable. Until it’s fully confirmed, she won’t place another
bid.”
As soon as he finished, Tyler scoffed aloud.
“Pretending to be rich again, huh? The appraisers already confirmed the bracelet’s worth. Didn’t you hear?”
“What, is she saying she’s more qualified than our appraisers?”
Someone joined in.
“She probably spent her entire net worth on that last bid. No wonder she’s desperate to check again.”
“But too bad-Mr. Grant really did come through. Now she’s stuck and can’t climb back out.”
Another voice piped up mockingly.
“What’s she being so stubborn for? She should come down here, apologize properly, maybe Mr. Grant will
take pity and spare her some face!”
The hall erupted in laughter, with people yelling up toward my suite.
Even the auctioneer couldn’t resist speaking up. “Madam, our verification process is flawless. The bracelet
has been reviewed by five of the country’s top appraisal experts.”
“If you no longer intend to bid, we will proceed with the sale.”
I looked down through the one-way glass and tapped the railing gently.
Ten more minutes, and the police would arrive.
Seeing I gave no further instructions, the consultant pushed forward awkwardly. “The client wishes to clarify that while the bracelet is indeed valued at three hundred million, its rightful owner is not Mr. Grant.”
A bombshell. The crowd exploded.
“What does that mean? The bracelet Ethan brought doesn’t belong to him?”
“No way. Even if you lie, know your limits. The Grant family can casually throw around that kind of money.”
