Chapter 6
When the police burst in, even the most arrogant in the room couldn’t hide their discomfort.
People of their status were never treated like suspects.
One of them immediately protested, putting on an official tone.
“Who’s your commanding officer? Who gave you the right to storm in like this?”
“Do you even know where you are? No one in this room is worth less than nine figures, and you’re barging in
here over a theft?”
Detective Morales remained calm. He even chuckled lightly.
“As it happens, the stolen item we’re investigating today is worth nine figures too.”
His eyes scanned the room, resting momentarily on each face. The message was clear: You may all be
valuable, but what we’re after is worth even more.
The man who had just spoken was left speechless. He grumbled and sat down reluctantly.
After all, if someone could own a piece valued at hundreds of millions, they were clearly someone he
couldn’t afford to cross.
The detective’s gaze swept across the hall again, then landed on the Emerald Jade Bangle sitting in the tray. He immediately gestured for it to be collected.
Tyler, Ethan’s assistant, jumped up to block them. “That bracelet belongs to Mr. Grant! What do you think
you’re doing?”
Detective Morales didn’t bother softening his tone. “That piece is stolen property.”
At that moment, Ethan stepped out of the private suite, face dark. “I wasn’t aware my own property had
suddenly become stolen goods.”
Back in the day, just one look from Ethan was enough to make anyone suck up to him.
But now, the detective stuck strictly to protocol. “Mr. Grant, we’ve been looking into the provenance of this
bracelet.”
“It was purchased seventeen years ago by Mrs. Grace Blake, and has never resurfaced on ue market since. You claim you’re the owner-do you have proof?”
Ethan’s expression grew darker. He let out a cold snort. “She gave it to her daughter, who then married me. So the bracelet is mine. Any questions?”
But what he failed to notice was the way the crowd began exchanging glances.
Someone whispered, “I thought it was his. Turns out it belonged to his wife.”

“He gave his wife’s bracelet to his mistress to win a necklace? Damn, Ethan’s got some nerve.””
“He was stalling earlier, wasn’t he? Probably broke. That’s why he had to dip into his wife’s dowry.”
While Ethan was busy flaunting his authority, he didn’t realize that everyone now saw him as nothing but a
gold-digger.
Watching him act so self-righteous, claiming my possession as his, I almost laughed out loud.
Detective Morales glanced subtly in my direction, then spoke up again.
“Mr. Grant, married couples are entitled to separate personal assets. You’ll need to prove that this bracelet is
jointly owned.”
He paused before continuing. “Does your wife know you’re using this bracelet as collateral?”
Ethan faltered, then snapped in irritation, trying to cover his panic. “Are you done? I already said-we’re
married. What’s hers is mine!”
The detective remained firm. “Was this expenditure made for a joint marital purpose?”
