The Rejected True Heiress (Liora and Callum) novel Chapter 162

Callum’s POV

I couldn’t focus. It wasn’t just the betrayal of knowing that Bianca had cheated on me in a cheap motel, but the fact that everyone kept staring at me everywhere I went. Their whispers followed me like a dark cloud. I felt like a laughingstock, or worse—someone they pitied.

I tried to ignore them. Tried to tell myself that it wasn’t her in the pictures, that this whole ordeal had been orchestrated by Liora in an attempt to sabotage my engagement.

But as the day wore on, that became easier said than done.

By the time classes were out for the day, I couldn’t bear it anymore. I found Bianca in her dorm—I knew she was there before I even knocked. Her laughter emanated from within. She wasn’t alone.

I hesitated at the door, hand lifted to knock, wondering if I should bother at all. Bianca was in there, talking to someone. Laughing with someone. With whom? Her secret lover, or someone else?

I decided not to bother knocking. If she was with him, then I needed to catch them in the act to know that this was real. I needed to see it for myself in order to know for certain that she had destroyed a betrothal that had been set in stone since we were children.

My jaw clenched as the image flashed through my mind. I had been faithful my entire life. I had never strayed from the path that had been set out for me. Fury took hold of me as I grasped the doorknob and turned it.

But when I flung the door open, some of my anger deflated, even if only a little. Bianca was there, sitting at her vanity, running a delicate comb through her hair while one of her friends was cross-legged on the bed. It was just the two of them.

“Callum.” Bianca slowly set her brush down and met my gaze in the vanity mirror. Every movement was deliberate, like she was trying to control herself. She turned to her friend and gestured for her to leave.

The girl hopped off the bed and scurried past me, sidestepping around my frame. I didn’t move from the doorway—just kept staring at Bianca with my fists balled up at my sides.

The moment we were alone, I spoke.
