Liora’s POV

“Well, well. What do we have here?” One of the rogues, a male in human form, stepped forward. The moonlight caught the jagged scar that cut across his cheek, making the smoothed-over flesh almost seem to gleam a silvery hue. Cold eyes flicked over us before landing on one of the girls in the group. “Little mouse offering herself up to the cat already?”

I turned my head and felt my stomach drop. The girl the rogue was staring at—she looked like me. Sort of. Similar hair and eye color, slightly shorter and more petite than me, but… If I were a rogue who had only received second hand descriptions of the female Alpha, I might think she was the one, too.

The rogue nodded his head toward the others, who began closing in on us. “We can do this the easy way or the hard way,” he said slowly, calmly. “Hand the girl over and no one has to get hurt. Refuse and my friends here will teach you kids a lesson about sneaking out into the woods in the dark.”

The girl whimpered, shrinking closer to Marissa’s girlfriend. Callum snarled and stepped forward.

“No,” he growled. “This is how it’s gonna be—you’re gonna back the fuck off, now, or you’ll all regret it.”

The rogue chuckled. “Kid sure is feisty.” He reached up, tracing his finger along the scar on his cheek. “Maybe you need a matching one of these to put you in your place. Harden you a little.”

“Fuck off,” Zane said. The rogue snapped his eyes toward him.

“Ah. Another young male hungry for glory?” He grinned, clapping his hands together. The other rogues crouched, preparing to pounce. “Let’s teach these younglings a lesson, boys.”

“RUN!” Callum shouted, shifting mid-stride. Zane shifted, too, as did the other boy in the group. Where three males stood, three wolves now crouched a moment later. The rogues leapt, and they clashed.

I gasped, stumbling backwards just as Zane leapt and collided midair with one of the rogues in a tangle of claws and fangs. For a moment, I was frozen in place, just staring at the chaos. But then Marissa’s girlfriend screamed.
