Liora’s POV
“Wooow… It’s even bigger than I expected!”
Mia flopped onto her bed and was nearly engulfed by the plush blankets and feather pillows. She giggled, rolling over onto her belly, and buried her face into one of the cushions. Whatever she said next was too muffled for me to make out.
I lingered in the doorway, scratching my head. The suite Mia and I shared was spacious and opulent; it had an adjoining bathroom, but our own private bedrooms, each complete with a king-sized bed.
It was a bit strange, knowing that I would be sleeping in my own room for the first time since the beginning of the semester.
Even more so with the way this place gave me the creeps.
Mia lifted her head, noticing my silence. She sighed and pushed herself up to her knees. “Are you sure you’re gonna be okay on your own? I don’t mind sharing a bed, you know. But I should warn you that I’m a cuddler.”
“It’s alright.” I forced a smile. “It’s just weird, that’s all. It’ll be so quiet without your snoring.”
“You should consider it a vacation, then,” Mia laughed, but then her face turned serious again. “Seriously, though, are you okay? You’ve been looking a little pale since we got here. You’re not sick or anything, are you?”
“No. Nothing like that.” I sighed. “In all honesty, this place creeps me out.”
Mia wrinkled her nose. “It is a little dark and remote, huh?” She stood, crossing over to the window, and peered out at the dark expanse beyond. There was a whole forest and snowy mountainside out there, but it was nothing but an abyss right now. Our own reflections stared back at us in the glass.
“I guess I expected a little more opulence for the royal palace,” Mia noted.
“Yeah.” That was because it wasn’t the royal palace. I turned away and crossed back over to the door. “You wanna shower first, or can I?”
