Chapter 1033 The Fragility of a Legend
As it turned out, after a single day of relief, the vomiting had returned with a vengeance.

“His reaction is only the third case I’ve seen that’s this severe,” Rianne explained. “Based on the experience of the previous two, he’s going to have to suffer through this a bit.”
Tessa was at a loss for words. Was “suffering a bit” really the right phrase? This was an absolute nightmare.
“Didn’t Stella say that morning sickness usually clears up after the first trimester?” Tessa asked. Stella had struggled for the first three months, but after that, she was fine.
“But in your case, you’re already past the three–month mark,” Rianne pointed out.
Well, she had a point.
“If the symptoms persist like this, we’ll have to wait until after the five–month mark to see if it lets up, or it might last until the birth,” Rianne added.
“Isn’t that a bit ridiculous?”
“It is,” Rianne agreed. Even as a doctor, she found the situation absurd, but there wasn’t much to be done. Some cases responded to medication, while others were simply beyond the reach of medicine.
“Good gosh… He’s honestly going to lose his mind.”
“Let’s try this other medication then,” Rianne said. “I’ll send the details over to you.”
“Alright, thanks.”
After hanging up, Tessa quickly received Rianne’s message regarding a different prescription. She immediately sent Lewis out to get it.
Victor was practically stumbling from exhaustion, his face deathly pale. He had tried to drink some hot chocolate earlier, but the result had been messy.
Watching him like this, Tessa felt a pang of genuine worry. Who would have thought that the legendary, terrifying Victor; a man who once struck fear into the hearts of everyone would be completely defeated by morning sickness?
Lewis and Silas had already stepped out. Tessa looked over at Victor. “Do you want to try some fruits?”
Of all the things in Noctarth, the fruits was her favorite. The texture was perfect, and it lacked any of those strange, lingering aftertastes.
However, at the mere mention of food, Victor’s expression darkened. He waved a dismissive hand. “Don’t worry about me. I don’t want to eat.”
He couldn’t keep anything down. It was his first time experiencing such visceral physical misery over food, and the sensation was making him incredibly irritable.

“Since you’re feeling so miserable,” Tessa asked softly, “do you still want to cuddle while we sleep?”
His eyes lit up instantly at her words. But it was only a flash before he replied sullenly, “Yes.”
Sleeping together was a non–negotiable, but eating was definitely off the table.
“How about a drink then? Some wine?” Tessa suggested. After all, Victor wasn’t the one who was actually pregnant. Unlike a mother–to–be, he could technically cat or drink whatever he wanted.
But Victor shook his head even more vigorously. “No.”
He had opened a bottle earlier, and the scent alone had nearly sent him back to the bathroom. He found himself loathing every smell and taste right now.
“Tsk… if this keeps up, what are we going to do?” Tessa muttered. He wouldn’t eat, and he wouldn’t drink. It was a stalemate.
Soon, Lewis returned with the medication. Tessa hurried to prepare it for him.
Seeing Victor in such a state, Lewis couldn’t help but comment, “Wow. This is the first time I’ve ever seen a man get morning sickness.”
Victor shot him a cold, warning glare.
Lewis immediately shut his mouth. “Alright, alright, I’m done! I’ll shut up.”
He couldn’t believe the man was still this lethal while half–dead from nausea.
“Have they caught Manny yet?” Victor asked, his voice low and dangerous. The fact that Manny had dared to kidnap Tessa was a debt that needed to be paid in blood.
“No news from Abel yet,” Lewis replied. “So probably not.”
Manny was, after all, the golden boy of the Ashen Pact. It was unlikely he was a complete fool. Victor’s shot had missed his vitals only because he had been worried about hitting Tessa in the crossfire. But the margin of error hadn’t been large.
“Abel brought a little cutie along with him,” Lewis added, perking up at the thought of Abel’s companion.
