Chapter 1035 A Sincere Gesture
It wasn’t that she wanted to be familiar with him, but the way this man spoke to Rianne had left a deep, unpleasant impression on her.
“What do you want?” Evie asked bluntly.
‘Abraham said you’re the one calling the shots regarding Ariana?”
He certainly didn’t waste any time. She had only just finished her conversation with Stella, and here he was, calling already.
Evie let out a cold laugh. “Of course I am. Why would I waste my energy on something I couldn’t control?”
Hearing her dismissive tone, Tempest’s expression darkened instantly.
‘Fine, if you’re the one in charge, let’s talk. What is it going to take for you to release her?”
The “her” in question was Ariana.
Tempest never imagined that a simple conflict with Rianne would spiral into something this convoluted. Stella, Abraham, and now even the McKenzie family were involved. If the situation weren’t so complicated, Ariana would have been out days ago.
Rianne… Why did things have to come to this? Did she really harbor that much hatred for the Hale family? Was it truly 2 hatred that had reached its breaking point?
‘I don’t want anything,” Evie replied. “I simply, righteously, want her to learn her lesson.”
Are you seriously proposing a deal? Are you serious? Do I look like someone desperate for resources?
‘She’s already learned her lesson, hasn’t she?” Tempest’s voice turned icy.
If one was talking about a “lesson,” the ordeal Ariana had endured recently was unlike anything she had experienced in her life. These past few days had been a living hell for her.
Tempest had gone to see her yesterday. She was covered in bruises, and because she hadn’t received proper medical attention, her face was swollen beyond recognition. The cuts at the corners of her mouth were already showing signs of infection.
To Tempest, this was more than enough of a lesson for Ariana.
Evie let out a mocking, airy laugh. “She’s been locked up for a few days, and you have the nerve to tell me she’s learned her lesson?”
The sheer absurdity of it was laughable.
The tension over the line became palpable. Tempest gritted his teeth. “You’ve completely beaten her senseless, so how is that not a lesson?”
“I didn’t even try to kill her yet. If I didn’t have to worry about traumatizing Rianne. I would have ended her right then and there.”

As far as Evie was concerned, that was one of the gentlest times she had ever laid hands on someone. It was purely for Rianne’s sake. She remembered how Stella had once shut down and became so isolated in her own mind for a long time after being terrified by Abraham’s methods. She held back because she was worried that Rianne might suffer a similar fate.
Tempest’s breathing became erratic, after hearing how dismissive she sounded. He wondered if he should give Rianne a round of applause for standing there and doing nothing to stop Evie?
“The Hale family has no grievance with the Keene family, do they?” Tempest asked, his voice sharp and dangerous.
“No formal grievances, no.”
Formal grievances? The way this woman spoke! was she implying there were “informal” grievances?
‘But now that Rianne is involved,” Evie continued, “there is a blood feud.”
Tempest was silent.
‘After all, Rianne is my future sister–in–law,” Evie said breezily. “She was bullied quite badly in the past, so I have to settle the score a bit. Consider this a gesture of sincerity toward my future sister–in–law.”
On the other end of the line, Tempest felt his temples throbbing with rage.
4 gesture of sincerity? Who showed sincerity like this?
The veins on his forehead bulged. “Did you just say… she’s your future sister–in–law?”
At that moment, the menace in Tempest’s voice was almost impossible to suppress.
I’ve investigated every single instance of Ariana hurting Rianne over the years,” Evie stated, unbothered, “What’s happening now is just the beginning.”
Tempest’s fury reached a boiling point when she said that.
“So, you’re saying you won’t let her go?”
The dangerous aura of a man used to absolute power radiated through the phone.
