Chapter 215: Holmes Made it Personal

Chapter 215: Holmes Made It Personal

Amorah POV

The photograph stayed on the table long after everyone stopped speaking. I stared at the words written beneath it while Conrad stood beside me with one hand resting against the back of my chair.

“That message wasn’t written by someone who has moved on,” Conrad said.

1 folded my arms across my chest and looked at the smiling version of us captured during Cassian’s naming ceremony. Holmes had not sent a threat, but somehow that made me even angrier.

“He never moved on,” I replied.

Conrad picked up the photograph and studied it again. His jaw tightened as he looked at the date stamped in

the corner.

“He was close enough to take this himself or pay someone to do it.”

I pushed my chair back and stood. The room suddenly felt smaller than before.

“He spent years treating me like I was disposable,” I said. “Now he can’t accept that I chose a life without him.” Conrad lowered the photograph carefully onto the table. His expression remained calm, but I knew exactly how furious he was.

“He won’t get near you.”

I nodded once and tried focusing on that certainty. The problem was not fear anymore.

The problem was exhaustion. Holmes kept finding ways to drag himself back into our lives.

A knock interrupted the conversation before I could respond. One of the security officers stepped into the room carrying a tablet.

“We found additional information from the missing employee’s account.”

Conrad gestured for him to continue. I remained beside the table while the officer opened several files. “The employee exchanged messages with Holmes’ contacts for months,” he explained. “Most of the information involved family schedules, school activities, and estate routines.”

I closed my eyes briefly. That explained how Holmes always seemed to know exactly where we were. “Was there anything about the children?” I asked.

The officer hesitated before answering. That hesitation told me enough.

“Yes.”

Conrad’s expression hardened immediately. The officer quickly opened another file.

“We found records connected to academy events, competition schedules, and medical appointments.”

Conrad thanked him and dismissed him after collecting copies of everything. The room became silent again once the door closed.

“He wasn’t planning anything,” I said.

Conrad looked at me. His eyes narrowed slightly.

“No.”

“He was watching.”

Conrad nodded once. The realization somehow felt worse.

A normal enemy attacked openly. Holmes preferred living in the past.

“He wanted reminders,” Conrad said quietly.

I laughed without humor. The sound surprised even me.

“He wanted proof that I was happy.”

Conrad stepped closer and wrapped an arm around my waist. I leaned against him and allowed myself

moment of weakness.

“You don’t owe him anything.”

“I know

For several seconds neither of us spoke. Then another voice interrupted from the hallway.

“Mom?”

Kyra stepped into the room before either of us answered. Zane followed immediately behind her. The twins noticed the photograph on the table almost instantly. Their expressions changed. “Was that another message?” Kyra asked.

I exchanged a glance with Conrad. We rarely hid things from them completely.

“Yes.”

Zane folded his arms. His frustration looked very similar to Conrad’s.

“Is it Holmes again?”

“It is,” Conrad answered.

Kyra groaned loudly and dropped into a chair. Her reaction almost made me smile.

“Doesn’t he have hobbies?”

Zane snorted. Even Conrad looked amused.

“Apparently not.”

The tension eased slightly after that. The twins had a way of doing that without trying.

“We have enough things to worry about already,” Kyra complained. “Competition season is stressful enough.” Zane immediately pointed at her. His expression turned smug.

“You said you weren’t stressed.”

Kyra’s eyes widened. She looked caught.

“I never said that.”

“You absolutely did.”

“I said I wasn’t worried.”

“That’s the same thing.”

“It isn’t.”

The argument continued exactly where dozens of previous arguments had gone before. Conrad sat beside me and watched them with obvious amusement.

For a moment Holmes disappeared from my thoughts entirely. The twins filled the room with noise and life.

Eventually Kyra stood and pointed dramatically at her brother. Her face had turned red.

“You’re impossible.”

Zane looked pleased with himself. That usually meant he believed he was winning.

“You say that every day.”

“Because it’s true.”

I finally interrupted before the discussion could continue another twenty minutes.

“Enough.”

Both twins immediately stopped. Neither looked particularly sorry.

“We have competition training tomorrow,” Conrad reminded them.

That changed their attitudes instantly. The argument disappeared

Kyra grabbed her bag first. Her confidence returned immediately

“I’m going to win

Zane rolled his eyes. He looked exactly like Conrad when he did that

“Keep telling yourself that.”

They left the room together while continuing the argument down the hallway. Their voices gradually faded into the distance.

Conrad shook his head. A smile remained on his face.

“They’re getting older”

I looked toward the doorway where they had disappeared. The realization felt strange.

“Too quickly.”

Conrad squeezed my hand gently. We stayed together for several moments before another notification appeared on his phone.

His expression changed immediately after reading it. My stomach tightened.

“What happened?”

Conrad handed me the phone. I scanned the message quickly.

Additional communications had been recovered from the missing employee’s devices. Most of them involved Holmes.

One sentence stood out above everything else.

Holmes no longer trusted Bethany.

I handed the phone back slowly. The message raised more questions than answers.
