Chapter 216 The Message He Shouldn’t Have

Chapter 216: The Message He Shouldn’t Have Sent

Amorah POV

The photograph remained in my hand while everyone around me stayed silent. Holmes handwritten message sat beneath it like he expected those words to matter to me

Hooked at the image again and felt anger instead of fear. Years had passed since he lost any place in my life, yet he was still watching from the shadows.

Conrad stepped closer and carefully took the photograph from me. His jaw tightened as he studied the message for himself.

“We’re increasing security tonight,” he said.

“No,” I replied immediately. “We’re not letting Holmes decide how we live.”

His eyes shifted to mine for several seconds. I knew he understood my frustration even if he did not agree with my decision.

“This isn’t about pride, Amorah,” Conrad said.

“And this isn’t about fear,” I answered. “I’m tired of giving him power every time he does something desperate.” The room remained tense after that exchange. Everyone understood that Holmes wanted attention as much as he wanted control.

Conrad finally nodded once. He still looked unhappy, but he chose not to argue further in front of everyone. After the others left, I sat alone in my office and opened several old files. If Holmes wanted to drag the past into the present, then I would make sure the truth followed him.

For years I had focused on surviving everything he and Bethany did to me. Now I wanted records, statements, and evidence that could not be denied.

I spent hours organizing documents connected to my exile and the lies that followed it. Every page reminded me how much damage had been hidden beneath excuses.

There was a knock at my door shortly before dinner. Bethany stepped inside before I invited her to enter. “What are you doing?” she asked.

I closed the file in front of me and leaned back in my chair. There was no reason to pretend anymore. “I’m preparing for accountability,” I said.

Her expression changed immediately. The confidence she sometimes wore disappeared faster than I expected. “You can’t blame everything on me,” Bethany said.

I laughed once without humor. Hearing that argument again only made me more certain of what I was doing.

“I don’t need to blame everything on you,” I replied. “I only need to tell the truth.”

She folded her arms across her chest. The movement looked defensive rather than angry.

“People make mistakes,” she said.

“You didn’t make a mistake,” I answered. “You made choices.”

Bethany looked away first. That alone told me more than her words ever could.

“You already have everything,” she said quietly. “What more do you want from me?”

I stood from my chair and walked around the desk. The years of humiliation and betrayal still lived inside me even if I no longer carried them every day.

“I want you to stop pretending consequences are unfair,” I said.

She stared at me without speaking. For the first time in a long while, she seemed to understand that I was finished protecting her from reality.

Chapter 216. The Messge He Shoulart Have Sent

Bethany left soon afterward without another argument: The silence she carried out of the room felt heavier than any shouting match

By the next morning, life continued despite everything. The twins were already focused on competition season before breakfast even started.

Kyra dropped into her chair with an annoyed expression. She looked like she had spent the entire morning preparing a speech.

“Some people are impossible,” she declared.

Zane barely glanced up from his food. His calm expression immediately irritated her even more.

“What happened now?” Conrad asked.

Kyra crossed her arms. She looked offended on a level only teenagers could achieve.

“Someone said I’ll only win because of who my parents are,” she said.

Zane snorted into his drink. Unfortunately for him, Kyra noticed.

“Do you think that’s funny?” she asked.

“I think you look scary when you’re angry before breakfast,” he replied.

Kyra threw a napkin at him. The attack missed completely, but it improved her mood slightly.

I watched them argue and felt grateful for the normality of it. Competition stress was far easier to handle than stalkers and traitors.

“You don’t have to prove yourself to everyone,” I told Kyra.

She sighed and pushed food around her plate. The frustration on her face softened a little.

“I know,” she said. “I just hate hearing it.”

After the twins left for school, I joined Conrad for a meeting with estate staff. The atmosphere felt noticeably different than it had only a few weeks earlier.

People spoke more carefully now. Every missing document and every unusual mistake made everyone suspicious.

One supervisor reported schedule changes that nobody could explain. Another mentioned records that appeared to have been moved and then returned.
