Elara waited until Zane walked back from taking a leak before pretending to wake up.
He was still shirtless. They locked eyes, the air thick with awkwardness.
He felt guilty because he had touched her.
She felt guilty because she had wanted him.
"Morning, Ms. Vance."
"Morning, Zane."
Elara caught a glimpse of his bare chest and quickly looked away.
Her clothes had dried from their shared body heat.
Unfortunately, Zane's shirt was still damp, but he had no choice but to throw it back on.
Elara sneaked a look at his back—he looked lean in clothes, but seriously muscular without them.
Zane checked the position of the sun, estimating the time. "Once people wake up, they're going to realize we're gone."
Elara didn't say a word.
They realize we're gone, and then what?
The heads of two companies missing for an entire night, a man and a woman—what would the executives think?
They'd assume they were sneaking around having an affair.
"Yeah, brilliant deduction," Elara replied dryly.
"Are you hungry?" Zane asked, desperately trying to fill the silence.
Elara was dying of thirst and desperately needed a bathroom.
"I'm fine. I'll just jump into the lake in a minute and drink until I'm full."
Zane was speechless. "..."
"I'm sorry, Ms. Vance."
Elara offered a cold, lifeless smile. "It's fine. Love sustains us, right?"
Her clothes were a wrinkled mess, her hair was a disaster, and her bladder was screaming. She felt like she was about to completely lose her mind.
Even if Zane looked like a Greek god, she was in no mood to appreciate it.
They said comfort breeds lust, but right now she was thirsty, bursting, and miserable. She just wanted to scream at someone.
When she found out Julian was cheating, she had been heartbroken, but at least she had been crying in a luxurious, climate-controlled hotel suite.
