The aftermath of falling into the ditch was clear during the morning meeting. Elara showed up looking flawless and polished because she had worn sandals.

Meanwhile, Zane hosted the meeting wearing hotel slippers, as his shoes hadn't dried yet.

No one in the room knew he had fallen into the lake the night before. They just assumed he had woken up late and walked straight into the conference room.

Since he was the boss, he could get away with absolutely anything.

After lunch, they headed back. Zane stared through the car window at Elara's car trailing behind them.

He hated being apart from her for even a second. When would he finally be able to make her his wife?

Jasper caught Zane's lovesick stare in the rearview mirror and hit the gas, sending the car surging forward.

Realizing that might have been a bit much with Seraphina Whitaker in the car, Jasper quickly laughed it off. "Boss, this car's acceleration just doesn't compare to my sports car."

"Seraphina, I'll take you for a spin in my car sometime. The acceleration is way better."

Zane ignored him completely. Seraphina ignored him too, turning to Zane instead. "Sebastian called you last night, Zane. He said your phone was unreachable, so he called me."

Sebastian Whitaker knew his sister had gone out of town with Zane. Because Jasper was there, he didn't trust the situation and had to monitor her every move.

Zane's phone was waterlogged, so of course it was unreachable. "Did he say what it was about?"

"No, just told me to have you call him back."

Zane's mind raced. He nodded and said he understood.

As soon as Zane got back to his office, he grabbed his backup phone and called Sebastian.

"Is there progress on that situation?"

"Yeah," Sebastian confirmed. "The opportunity is here, we just need a little push."

Elara hadn't slept well the night before, so she didn't go to the office. She went straight back to The Vance Estate to rest, which meant Sienna Carter couldn't find her at Vance Properties.

Since she couldn't reach Elara by phone, Sienna felt it was inappropriate to show up unannounced at The Vance Estate.
