After the banquet, Zane invited Elara out for a walk to sober up.
Elara was hesitant. Given his usual alcohol tolerance, she half-expected him to face-plant on the curb.
"You drank quite a bit tonight. Maybe you should just head back to your room and rest," she suggested.
"There's a great bar nearby," Zane replied smoothly.
Elara raised an eyebrow. "You can still drink?"
Zane smiled. "I have a very high tolerance."
Elara sighed inwardly. Usually, the people who insisted they weren't drunk were the most wasted.
Zane locked eyes with her. "Don't you want to hear the rest of that gossip about Mr. Quigley?"
Elara barely knew Quentin, and she certainly didn't care about his personal drama. Why was he being such a gossip?
"You're cursing me in your head right now, aren't you?" Zane asked with a grin.
Elara offered a polite, strained smile. "You've had too much to drink. Let me walk you back to your room."
Zane didn't move. "Mr. Quigley had a long-term project on the line, but a scandal destabilized his funding. That's why he had to liquidate that high-rise."
He paused deliberately. "And that project was The Silver Lining Initiative—a massive senior care development that can absorb a staggering amount of real estate nationwide. Completed, unfinished, or completely stagnant properties. It takes them all."
Elara's mind raced as she parsed his words. Was he talking about a golden ticket falling right into her lap?
Zane smirked. "It wouldn't be appropriate for you to come to my room. Shall we find somewhere to discuss the details?"
Elara's eyes lit up with sudden excitement. "Which bar?"
"Just two blocks down."
