Elara closed her eyes, giving him her silent permission.
She thought 'just a little more' meant another peck on the lips, or maybe the neck. Instead, his mouth began a slow, burning trail straight down her throat.
Realizing she didn't have a change of clothes, she frantically covered his mouth. "Don't... don't get my clothes wet."
Surprisingly agreeable this time, Zane pulled back.
Elara was just about to let out a sigh of relief when he suddenly scooped her up into his arms. Startled, she threw her arms around his neck.
"Don't drop me!"
"I won't. I'm not drunk," Zane murmured, carrying her straight toward the master bedroom.
"Wait, I'll wash up on my own."
Zane ignored her. "You can wash in the master suite."
Seeing the dangerous look in his eyes, Elara grew terrified of what he might try to pull in the shower. "It'll be faster if we shower separately," she blurted out.
Zane considered this for a second and finally agreed.
He grabbed a pair of slippers for her, then walked barefoot to the other bathroom to shower.

The second Zane stepped into his bathroom, he yanked open the drawer and popped a pill. He was not about to fail to perform tonight.
If he dropped the ball now, Elara would probably never look his way again.
He was fairly certain no woman could tolerate a man who couldn't deliver in bed.
Zane scrubbed himself spotless.
After dressing and making sure he looked put together, he took out the blister pack of pills again. Paranoia crept in—what if the effects wore off halfway through? He debated taking a second one. After all, he wasn't as young as he used to be.
"Mr. Whitaker?"
Zane jumped. He slammed the drawer shut on pure reflex. The loud bang startled Elara, too.
She was wrapped in a plush white towel; he was in a T-shirt and shorts. They stood there, staring at each other from across the room.
Regaining his composure, Zane ushered her in.
"I'll blow-dry your hair."
Feeling a little awkward, Elara murmured, "You don't have to. I thought you might be waiting for the slippers."
