Zane wrapped his arms tightly around her, parting her lips with ruthless determination to drink in her sweetness.
Elara pinched his arms furiously, but he didn't yield an inch. She could hit him all she wanted.
*Knock, knock.*
"Ms. Vance, I've brought the tea."
Elara shoved Zane backward with a gasp and pulled the door open.
The two of them stood in heavy, awkward silence while the maid set the tea down.
The absolute second the door clicked shut, Zane lunged to kiss her again. Elara's hand cracked sharply against his cheek.
Zane didn't care. He leaned in for another taste.
Elara slapped him a second time. Zane caught her hand mid-air, his eyes softening. "Does your hand hurt?"
"You're completely out of control, Zane!" she hissed, furious. "This is my house!"
Zane yanked her into a crushing embrace, his voice thick with panic and desperation. "Did you agree to take him back?!"
"Did you forgive him?!"
"What happens to me?!"
"What do you mean, what happens to you?!" Elara smacked him hard on the back.
"Didn't I make myself clear enough?!"
"I refuse to sneak around with you in the shadows."
"How many times do I have to say it?!"
Zane buried his face in her hair, refusing to let go. "Then tell me when the divorce is final, and I'll marry you the very same day!"
Elara felt like she was arguing with a lunatic. "Shut up! Are you drunk? You're talking absolute nonsense!"
"I drove here. I haven't had a single drop of alcohol."
Zane rubbed her back, coaxing her with gentle desperation. "I promise I'll do better than him. I'll treat you so well. Just divorce him quickly, okay?"
Elara was too exhausted to indulge him. "Maybe we won't divorce at all. Go find something productive to do. I've never heard of a man wanting to bring a woman home to his family just because they had a fling."
"You're not just some woman. You're the love of my life. I'm taking you home."
