Zane's eyes immediately locked onto Julian's arm wrapped tightly around Elara's waist.
Had they... reconciled?
Zane abruptly excused himself from his conversation and casually strolled forward, acting as if he had just bumped into them by chance.
"What a coincidence. Julian, Mrs. Sterling."
Julian's expression instantly darkened. "Mr. Whitaker."
Zane turned his gaze to Elara. "Mrs. Sterling, have you given any more thought to the Outer Ring Revival Project?"
Elara screamed at him internally. Did they really need to talk about business right now? Her body still hummed from his reckless touch, and now she had to stand between her husband and her lover while Zane spouted professional nonsense. She wanted to slap them both.
"The project department hasn't finalized the proposal yet, Mr. Whitaker," she said stiffly.
"We could always sit down and discuss it, if you have the time," Zane pressed.
"My wife and I are busy right now, Mr. Whitaker," Julian interrupted, tightening his grip on Elara's waist. "Have your team contact us."
Zane flashed a brilliant, dangerous smile. "Julian, Mrs. Sterling and I have a great relationship, and we handle a lot of business together. We should all grab a drink sometime."
He delivered the words with perfectly polite professionalism, but all Julian heard was: *I do a lot of business with your wife.*
What kind of business? Did she seduce him? How? Did Zane take the bait?
Julian knew no man could possibly resist her.
The thought ignited a fresh inferno of jealousy in Julian's chest. "My wife can be a little capricious, Mr. Whitaker. I wouldn't take her too seriously," he warned, his voice dripping with ice.
Zane ignored the thinly veiled threat entirely. "Julian, I admire Mrs. Sterling's capabilities. I'm more than happy to provide Vance Properties with any assistance they require."
To Elara, Zane's message was loud and clear: *I am much more useful to you than he is.*
Julian narrowed his eyes, opening his mouth to retaliate, but Elara immediately cut him off. "Julian, let's go greet Uncle Arthur. I saw him arrive earlier."
Julian shot Zane one last venomous glare before leading Elara away.
