After exchanging a few pleasantries, they got down to business and discussed the acquisition of Vance Properties.

Zane Whitaker showed immense interest in the project.

Seeing his enthusiasm, Elara Vance finally felt the heavy stone in her chest lift slightly.

This was exactly the outcome she had hoped for. It was her first time inviting an industry titan to a meeting, and the fact that he actually showed up meant she had a smooth start.

In reality, Zane’s mind wasn’t on the project at all.

The woman sitting across from him had a faint, alcohol-induced flush on her porcelain skin. Her beautiful eyes shimmered like rippling water, making her look even more breathtaking and captivating than any other time he had seen her...

He wanted to gaze at her properly, but didn't dare to stare too openly. So, he lowered his head to take a sip of wine, using the motion as an excuse to steal a glance, then took another sip to steal another look.

Ultimately, his secret plan to drive her home fell through.

He had drank too much and felt lightheaded.

However, he adamantly kept his mouth shut about Jasper Yale, who was waiting elsewhere in the restaurant.

Hearing him start to ramble, Elara knew the man was drunk.

She mused to herself that it didn't matter how formidable a person was in their daily life or how ruthlessly they commanded their troops at the company; once they drank, they were all the same. The sharp corporate edge vanished, replaced by endless, pointless chatter that completely missed the mark.

Since she couldn't discuss the acquisition with him any further and realized he didn't have his chauffeur with him, Elara kindly decided to take him home—she still had more to say to him anyway.

Elara called a waiter to help support the CEO to her car.

She closed the car door for him and asked for his address, learning that he wasn't currently staying at the Whitaker Manor.

His residential complex was quite a distance away, almost at the outskirts of the City.

But since the survival of the Vance Group was on the line, she would gladly drive him even if he lived in the middle of a barren wasteland.

Fearing that a bumpy ride might make Zane sick, Elara reminded her driver to go steady.

When they left the private room, she hadn’t seen his overcoat, so she instructed the driver to turn up the heat to keep him from catching a cold.

Then she asked thoughtfully, "Mr. Whitaker, please let me know if you need to throw up."

Zane had absolutely no urge to throw up. Basking in her concern, his heart was practically soaring.

Just moments ago, he had been kicking himself for being useless and dropping the ball at a critical moment by not being able to drive Elara home. This sudden, unexpected stroke of luck made him so giddy he felt even dizzier. He rejoiced internally that things had somehow worked out in his favor after all.
