The car safely arrived at the underground parking garage of a newly developed residential complex.

Elara’s driver circled around to open the door and helped Zane out of the car.

Zane felt a pang of disappointment.

Seeing that the CEO was standing steadily and seemed to have something to say, the driver immediately got back into the car and closed the door, giving his boss some privacy.

"Mr. Whitaker, I won't escort you up."

Zane looked at her, a smile tugging at his lips. "Alright."

Seeing that he seemed somewhat sobered up, Elara said, "Mr. Whitaker, I have a presumptuous request. I hope you'll forgive me."

"Go ahead." Right now, a slightly inebriated Zane would gladly walk through fire for her.

"My younger sister is still naive and hasn't really reached the age of maturity. She's so young yet running around trying to keep our family business afloat. I hope you can be lenient and not hold her actions against her."

What was the real nature of his relationship with Vivian Vance?

Zane knew it better than anyone.

He was the one who had leaked the rumor that the younger Vance daughter was his new fling, specifically to draw the fire of his ex-wife.

Zane smiled at her. "You drove me all the way back here just to say this, didn't you?"

Elara admitted it. "Yes. Please excuse her. She's young, and her ideas can be hopelessly naive. She doesn't listen to reason."

"Do you think I'm the type of man driven by lust, taking advantage of young girls?" Zane asked with a chuckle.

"Mr. Whitaker, you must be joking," Elara quickly reeled her words back. "You are the CEO of the Whitaker Group, a titan in the real estate sector. You could have any kind of girl you want. It's my sister who lacks a sense of boundaries and oversimplified the situation, causing trouble for you."

Afraid of angering Zane, Elara subtly threw in a few compliments.

Zane studied her features, suddenly smiled, and said, "Understood."

His ambiguous "understood" left Elara unsure of what he truly meant, but she still replied, "Thank you for your understanding, Mr. Whitaker."

With a gentle expression, Zane said, "Be careful on your way back."

Elara nodded. "Goodbye, Mr. Whitaker."

After Elara's car departed, Zane didn't go upstairs. Instead, he walked out of the residential complex on foot.

The early spring night in the North was freezing. Zane was instantly chilled to the bone, feeling it was even colder than the dead of winter. He quickly flagged down a taxi and headed back to the city center.
