Zane's calculations were solid, but unfortunately, even the best-laid plans could go awry.
Nadia, walking arm-in-arm with Bennett at The Regency Club, bumped straight into Elena.
Nadia froze for a moment, looking a little guilty. "Hello, Elena. Hello, Beatrice."
Bennett, however, was perfectly composed. "Hello, Mrs. Whitaker. Hello, Beatrice."
Before Elena could speak, Beatrice chimed in, "Bennett, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me."
Bennett didn't let go of Nadia's hand. "Nadia is my girlfriend."
Beatrice said, "Bennett, really, if you were serious, you should have told the families ages ago instead of letting the elders stress over your marriages."
Bennett replied, "You're absolutely right, Beatrice. It was thoughtless of me."
"Alright, you two go on. It is what it is, and if you're both willing, who can stop you?"
Bennett gave a slight nod and led Nadia away.
Beatrice tried to soothe her friend. "Elena, don't be mad. Zion definitely knows about this."
Hearing that only made Elena angier.
"Of course he knows!"
"The girl he was kissing here last time definitely wasn't Nadia!"
"That little jerk! I'm going back right now to read him the riot act!"
"Alright, calm down," Beatrice coaxed. "At least it proves Zion has someone he actually likes in his heart. Him finding someone he truly wants is better than anything, certainly better than treating his marriage like a random transaction like his first one, right?"
