As the saying went, if you walked in the dark long enough, you were bound to run into ghosts.
Zane took Elara out to dinner, only to bump straight into Nadia.
While Elara was in the restroom, Nadia walked into the restaurant.
Nadia thought it was truly a small world, cursing her bad luck for the day.
Especially when she noticed the dishes on the table—each one delicate and perfectly suited to a woman's taste.
Anger flared within her. "Well, Mr. Whitaker, no steak and potatoes today?"
Zane maintained his composure. "This restaurant doesn't serve that."
Nadia shot back, "Your restaurant didn't have it either, but they still made it for you, didn't they?"
Zane said evenly, "This isn't my restaurant."
Nadia scoffed. "Like that would stop you, the great Whitaker scion?"
Zane asked good-naturedly, "Didn't Bennett join you today?"
"Hmph, that's none of your business."
"You're Gideon's defeated rival, and you still have the appetite to eat? If I were you, I would have starved myself out of shame by now."
Zane wasn't angry. He checked the time on his watch. "Nadia, aren't you hungry?"
"I don't even care to talk to you."
Nadia was indeed a little hungry, but she really just wanted to mock him.
She looked up and saw the eldest Vance daughter walking toward them from a distance.
She scoffed. "If I were you, I'd go straight to her house and propose. What's the point of sucking up to her sister? Her sister's own marriage is a mess, does she have time to care about you?"
Zane just smiled without a word. "After you, Nadia."
"You think I want to waste my breath on you? Hurry up and make things clear with your family." That was Nadia's main goal.
Zane looked completely unfazed. "You tell your family, and I'll play along."
"If my words carried any weight, I would have said something long ago," Nadia snapped.
