"Do you like the flowers, or the man who brought them?"
Elara gave him a teasing look. "Mr. Whitaker, you expect me to surrender to you over a two-hundred-dollar bouquet?"
"Two thousand," Zane corrected, holding her close with a grin. "The extra eighteen hundred was for the emotional value."
"Fine, two thousand. You think you can buy a woman's affection for two thousand dollars?"
"Then I'll just surrender to you instead," Zane said, suddenly scooping her up into his arms.
Elara let out a soft gasp. "Stop messing around, I'm trying to arrange the flowers."
"They aren't worth your effort," Zane declared. "They're only worth two hundred dollars. The other eighteen hundred was supposed to buy me your undivided attention."
Zane sat down on the sofa, keeping her in his arms.
Elara ended up straddling his lap. Feeling a little unsteady, she looped her arms around his neck. "What is that supposed to mean? You overpaid for stolen flowers, and now you want me to provide the emotional value?"
"I adore you. That's why I'm willingly surrendering to you."
Elara rolled her eyes playfully. "Mr. Whitaker, just lay your cards on the table."
"I'm telling you I adore you."
Elara shifted slightly and patted the pocket of his dress pants. "Did you bring your supplies again?"
Zane let out a breathless laugh. "It's really not a habit. The standard sizes are just too restrictive."
Unable to match his sheer shamelessness, Elara felt her face burn. "Be serious."
Zane gently stroked the nape of her neck, his thumb tracing soft circles against her skin. He let out a ragged sigh. "Why am I so crazy about you? It has to be you."
Elara smiled. "Mr. Whitaker, I think we've established enough emotional value. Let's just get to it."
Zane's gaze darkened instantly. With her sitting on his lap, the pill had already taken full effect. He tightened his grip on her waist, pulling her flush against him.
