Elara finally escaped to the safety of the car, letting out a massive breath. But before she could even relax, Zane started complaining.
"I don't think that doctor knows what he's talking about. It felt like he was just spouting feel-good nonsense to boost my self-esteem."
"How on earth is fifteen minutes considered elite?"
"Doesn't every normal guy last at least half an hour?"
Elara wanted to throttle him. "Shut up and get in the car!"
"I'm trying to have a serious discussion here."
Elara ignored him and slammed the passenger door shut.
"Are you even listening to me? I'm telling you, that doctor is a quack. This whole trip was a total waste of time."
"Close the door!" Elara glared at him. "Most people hide their medical issues, but you're acting like you want to broadcast it to the world!"
"I paid for this private parking spot. No one else is coming down here today."
"Just drive. Let's go," Elara urged.
"I'm not finished," Zane said, turning his head. He noticed she was still wearing the surgical mask. "We're in the car. Why are you still wearing that?"
He reached over and pulled it down. Her face was flushed bright crimson.
"Are you... blushing?"
Elara swatted his hand away. "I'm not blushing. I've just turned into the flushed one!"
"Who in their right mind drags a woman to a specialist appointment like that?"
Zane defended himself weakly. "It's a completely confidential service. Even if someone saw us, they wouldn't know why we were here."
"Stop talking!"
"Why are you being so difficult?"
Zane let out a loud, ringing laugh and pulled her into his arms. "Okay, maybe I'm being a little annoying. But that doctor was talking total nonsense, and it irritated me."
"Jasper is completely useless. He always manages to book me with these incompetent quacks."
