Elara sighed softly. "An ordinary man really only lasts a few minutes."
Since she had married her first love, it went without saying exactly who she was referring to.
"So, even without the pills, I'm better than him?"
Elara turned her face away, choosing not to answer. But her silence was confirmation enough.
"Were you... harmonious with him?"
Elara stayed quiet.
"Did you... ever finish?"
"No."
A triumphant grin spread across Zane's face. He pulled her flush against his chest. "I might have my flaws, but at least I'm better than him."
A rosy hue crept back onto Elara's cheeks. "Nobody goes at it for twenty or thirty minutes non-stop like a machine. You're not an animal."
Zane was silent.
"That was only because of the pills."
"Even without them, I'm miles ahead of the average guy." His quickest time had been on the office couch, and even that was a solid five or six minutes.
In the bathtub, he had clocked in around ten.
"Didn't the doctor explain it?" Elara reminded him. "If the emotional buildup is right, and you pace yourself—stopping and starting—it can easily stretch to thirty minutes. You don't have to just go at it relentlessly like an engine."
An engine?
Zane let out a low chuckle. "Are you saying my technique is garbage?"
Elara turned her head away. "It's pretty bad."
Thrilled, Zane gently caught her chin, turning her face back toward him, leaning in for a kiss. Elara slapped a hand over his mouth. "Stop it. We're in a hospital parking lot."
He kissed the palm of her hand, his eyes burning with intent. "I want to do it right now."
"Are you out of your mind?"
"I want to prove whether or not that doctor is a quack."
How on earth did he plan to prove that right now?
Elara stared at him in sheer shock.
His striking eyes locked onto hers, heavy with suggestion. "I have a property nearby. A private garage. Completely secure. Do you want to..."
"No!"
