If the mountain wouldn't come to Muhammad, Muhammad would go to the mountain.
Zane knew Elara was working late. After putting in some overtime at his own office, he drove straight to Vance Properties.
Aaron, her secretary, wasn't at her desk. Zane knocked twice and pushed the door open.
Instead of finding Elara alone, he walked into a room full of male executives.
As the CEO of Whitaker Group, his sudden appearance at the door of the Vance Properties general manager's office after hours was more than a little conspicuous.
The executives all turned to stare at him.
Zane was slightly surprised but kept his expression completely neutral.
"Ms. Vance," he said with utter seriousness, "I have a matter I'd like to discuss with you in-depth. When would you be available?"
Seeing him spout this professional nonsense with a straight face, Elara immediately stood up, playing along. "Mr. Whitaker, please give me a moment."
She walked over to him. "Please wait in the lounge for a few minutes."
She led him into the adjoining private lounge. As soon as Zane stepped inside, he shut the door behind him, spun her around, and pinned her against it.
"Is your heart made of iron?" he murmured.
Elara quickly pushed him back. "Behave yourself. If you dare kiss me right now, don't blame me for slapping you."
Zane chuckled softly. "I really do have a very important matter I'd like to... discuss with you in-depth."
Elara glared at him. "How in-depth? Did you bring condoms again? Trying to play out some illicit office fantasy?"
Her bluntness actually left Zane momentarily speechless.
He laughed. "I just came to pick you up from work. If you have unfinished business, I can help you out."
"So no in-depth discussion?" she retorted dryly.
"Can we schedule that for when we get home?"
"Just sit here and be quiet," Elara said, pushing him aside and reaching for the door.
"Hurry up!" Zane whined playfully.
"Quiet."
