Desire was one thing; action was another. Wanting her was a biological instinct, but holding back was what made him a decent man.

With trembling fingers, Zane carefully fastened the rogue button on her blouse. He called out softly, "Ms. Vance, do you want some water?"

Elara kept her eyes shut and gave a faint shake of her head. A rush of profound relief washed over Zane.

Thank God he hadn't crossed the line. She was drunk, but clearly still conscious.

"Do you want me to help take off your makeup?" She didn't respond.

"I don't have any makeup remover here. Do you have some in your purse?" Zane knew most women carried travel-sized skincare for touch-ups.

He glanced around the living room before realizing he had left her handbag in the car.

"Stay here. I'm going down to grab your bag."

Only after he left did Elara dare to open her eyes. The room immediately spun violently, her stomach lurching. She quickly squeezed her eyes shut again.

She really had drank too much tonight. When Zane had carried her, she had subconsciously clung to him, desperately wanting him closer.

The raw, masculine heat radiating from him had stirred something primal inside her. A dangerous part of her wanted to throw caution to the wind, to let go and surrender to the mounting tension.

Just moments ago, she had actually hoped he would make a move. If he had, she wouldn't have fought it. She would have kept her eyes closed, let him take her, and blamed it all on the alcohol to silence her own guilt.

But he was a perfect gentleman. He had just buttoned her shirt. It left her feeling completely exposed in her own shameful desires.
