Elara paused for a moment, then said, "It's a work in progress."

Zane instantly knew she hadn't solved it. "How about this: it's not convenient for you to drive, and I happen to be running an errand near your office tonight. I’ll give you a ride home, and we can talk on the way."

Seeing that he didn't even have time for a single dinner, yet still managed to squeeze out time during his commute to take her home, Elara felt a surge of emotion. "Mr. Whitaker, please don't trouble yourself. If I really can't figure it out, I’ll come find you at Whitaker Group."

"It's no trouble, it's right on my way. Wait for my call."

Jasper Yale listened to Zane finish the call, his face a mask of indignation. "Boss, do you have any idea how much we have on our plate today?"

"We've got several business dinners lined up. Just to get through these, you'd have to eat straight for seven days, sometimes twice a night."

"You literally do not have the time to go pick up Mrs. Sterling from work." Jasper pointedly refused to call her President Vance, deliberately using Mrs. Sterling instead.

Zane's expression remained neutral. "I didn't hire you as my assistant to create problems for me. I need exactly one hour tonight to drive Ms. Vance home."

By late afternoon, as Zane was heading out, Jasper chased after him, barking, "Boss, beautiful women are a disaster! You're letting lust ruin the empire!"

"Someone shows you an ounce of kindness, and you lose your damn mind!"

"Our money doesn't grow on trees, and our cash flow is tight as it is. That is not a small amount of money."

Zane paused and looked back. "How did you even know about this?"

How did he know?

"I heard it in the underground parking garage!" Jasper spat in frustration. "Mrs. Sterling asked her legal husband for it. So could you, the third party, please not rush in to be the ultimate sucker?"

"What did Julian Sterling say?" Zane asked.

"Boss, what kind of priorities do you have?! I'm telling you not to play the big shot hero."

"I asked you, what did he say?"

"What did he say? He said it directly!"

Jasper was thoroughly disgusted by Zane's current state—bewitched by a woman and entirely devoid of reason.
