“You wouldn’t understand even if I explained it,” Zane said, not bothering to clarify.
“What’s there to understand? You fell for a honey trap,” Jasper snapped in irritation. “Does Mrs. Sterling even know you’re planning to inject capital?”
“That’s not important,” Zane replied.
Jasper rolled his eyes. “Not important? It’s incredibly important.”
Before Jasper could finish his sentence, the landline on Zane’s desk rang. It was Old Chairman Whitaker, summoning him upstairs.
Jasper smirked. “Boss, you better bring your thickest armor for that mouth of yours.”
Zane scoffed. “The future of Whitaker Group rests on my shoulders. My will is the direction of this conglomerate.”
Bullshit!
Jasper thought to himself, It’s only because you are the eldest grandson of the Whitaker family. If the old men on the Board had literally any other option, they wouldn’t have tolerated you this long.
A corporate CEO was, at the end of the day, just a high-level employee. The Board of Directors pointed the way, and the CEO charged the front lines.
Because Zane was Alistair Whitaker’s only son, he frequently participated in ultimate decision-making.
Unfortunately, Zane’s 'will' was just vetoed by his father.
Jasper threw out a sarcastic remark. “What happened? Went upstairs and found out Uncle Alistair wasn’t possessed by a demon? Your 'befriend the distant, attack the near' strategy didn't work?”
This outcome was entirely within Zane’s expectations. “Go call the executives in charge of the acquisition case up here. I want a feasibility report drafted immediately.”
Jasper stared. “You’re actually serious?”
“Cut the crap and go.”

Elara also found out about Whitaker Group’s independent capital injection plan through the news.
But she didn’t take it seriously.
The two sides had never had a single conversation about a capital injection, so she assumed this was just Zane’s way of artificially boosting market confidence in Vance Properties.
Still, the fact that Zane was willing to go this far filled her heart with immense gratitude.
Vivian Vance called to ask about the capital injection. Since her sister was working as an assistant to Gideon Grant, Elara didn’t tell her the truth and instead confirmed the injection was real.
