Sienna's expression instantly darkened. She had a daughter who had wasted the best years of her youth desperately chasing a man who wanted nothing to do with her. It was a humiliating sore spot for the Sterling family, and Elara had just dragged it into the open. "Elara!" Sienna snapped sharply. "Watch your mouth! You don't just say whatever vile thought crosses your mind!"

"Mom! So he's allowed to humiliate me and my entire family, and I'm just supposed to shut up and take it?!"

Enraged that she was talking back to his mother, Julian lunged forward and grabbed her arm, yanking her violently toward the stairs. "Get upstairs right now!"

Elara fought back fiercely, shoving him away with all her strength. Julian lost his footing and stumbled back, crashing heavily into the solid oak banister.

Humiliated and furious, Julian pointed a lethal finger at her. "You either learn to live with it, or you get out! If you don't like how things work here, then get the hell out of my house!"

Elara froze perfectly still on the stairs.

She had spent the last seven years pouring her blood, sweat, and soul into this marriage.

She had charmed the political wives, secured massive development deals for the Sterling Group, hosted flawless galas, and managed every excruciating detail of their domestic lives.

And now, he was telling her to get out.

Who was she?

She was Elara Vance.

She had married him at the very height of the Vance empire's golden era.

She had walked down the aisle with her head held high.

Even so, he dared to throw her out like garbage.

She might be backed into a corner now, but she would never let him drag the Vance name through the mud.

"Fine."

Elara straightened her spine, walked up to their bedroom, grabbed her handbag, and marched straight back down the stairs.

"Julian!" Sienna gasped, shocked by the sudden escalation. "What is wrong with you?!"

"You can't let her run out into the night like this!"

"Go after her!"

Julian didn't move an inch.

Elara didn't hesitate. She swapped her slippers for her heels and pushed open the massive front doors.

"Elara, wait—" Sienna rushed forward to stop her.

"Let her go, Mom," Julian interrupted, his voice dripping with venomous arrogance. "Let her go out there and clear her head. Let her see exactly how the real world treats her when she no longer has the protection of being Mrs. Sterling. Let's see how far that Vance pride actually gets her."
