I’ve got Deidra Hartman in my bed, pinned beneath me. She’s clawing at me like she wants to tear

And what a fucking sight. Deidra’s hair was a damn mess. Her mascara was slightly smudged. Her clothes were askew. And her face, neck, and chest were flushed red,

“I should probably get going actually,” she said as she shot to her feet.

“What? No, I argued right away.

“No, really, it’s okay,” she said, trying to move past me.

I grabbed her arm, stopping her. I gave her a hard look, searching her eyes. She looked away from me though, chewing on that bottom lip of hers.

“Way, give me a sec, okay?” I called out. “You want to go get a glass of water?”

“Okay Dad, Waylen replied.

“You’re just going to leave after all that?” I asked De dra. “I have a promise to uphold now.”

Her face turned bright red at that.

“Your son needs you, Brixton,” she said.

‘I can lay with him in his bed and come back to you, I offered. “You can spend the night here tonight too.”

She shook her head.

“No, it’s okay. I’ll see you tomorrow,” she said, heading for the door again.

“Thorn, don’t pull away from me before I even got a chance to blow your mind,” I teased her.

Deidra paused at my door. For a moment she just stood there. I saw her shoulders move with the

deep inhale she took. Then she turned her head, fluttering her pretty lashes at me. I fu.cking

melted on the spot.

“Well, a real ma.n always keeps his promises, right?” she asked, her voice pure seduction. “And a

real wom.an knows how to be patient.” She added. I’ll see you tomorrow, Brixton.”

Then she opened my door, leaving me stunned.

“Wait!” I called out, rushing after her. “At least let me walk you back, I can’t let you go alone.”

“But Waylen-”

“Will be fine for a few minutes,” I cut her off. “He’s not scared the way you think he is. He gets

nightmares sometimes. He just can’t fall back asleep without me there. Trust me. I’ll go tell him to

wait in my room. He’ll sleep with me the whole night. I swear I’m not abandoning my son for you.” I ended with a short laugh.

“Promise?” She asked, frowning at me, and I hated the fact that she felt like I had to promise her

something like that. She’s supposed to just know I’m not a piece of sh.it dad. Although, Glory gave

her enough reason to not believe that. Almost two years later and I still haven’t convinced Deidra

that I’m not an a.sshole.

However, it warmed my heart more than it irritated me. Because Dedira was acting all

momma–bear again. It pulled at me every single time before, but this time is different. Because I

finally admitted that I still have feelings for her. And she was just in my bed, squirming under me,

begging me not to stop…

That has to count for something, right? Deidra must not think I’m that bad if she’s willing to kiss

“I promise,” I replied, fighting the smile that wanted to break out on my face. “I’ll even send you a

picture once he’s asleep.”

“Okay, then I’ll wait for you at the door.” She replied before going down that hall.

I waited until she disappeared into the living room to head towards the kitchen. I blew out a breath

and rubbed the back of my neck, dragging my feet. I know Way needs his sleep, but I really don’t want Deidra to leave. Plus, if I really intend to come back here in a timely manner for my son, then I need time to talk my d***k down. I’m fu.cking throbbing painfully.

I’ll need a cold shower the moment Waylen falls back asleep.

I entered the kitchen and saw Waylen sitting at the table. He had a glass of water in front of him.

His eyes were already drooping. He was clinging to his favorite blanket. The one he never sleeps

without. The one Deidra had him wrapped up in when she stormed into the clubhouse when he

was running a fever. It was one she kept in her car for emergencies. She told him to keep it. He’s

slept with it every night since.

“Hey buddy,” I said as I walked to the table.

I scooped him up in my arms before he could reply. He wrapped his little arms around my neck and rested his head on my shoulder. I kissed the top of his head as I walked back to my room. I laid Waylen down and pulled the covers up to his chin.

“I need to walk Deidra home, okay buddy?” I told him.

“Dra’s still here?” he asked happily.

I nodded with a smile on my face.

“Yeah, but it’s late, so I’m gonna take her back,” I said.

“Would she have stayed the night if I didn’t have a nightmare?” he asked in a small voice that broke

my heart.

“No, buddy,” I replied immediately, trying to give him a reassuring smile. “We were just talking and

lost track of time. That’s all.”

“Dad, do you think if we give Dra the best Christmas ever that she’ll want to be my mom?” he asked

For a moment, I was stunned. I knew this was how Waylen felt, but… I didn’t know what to say. Hearing him ask that sounded so silly. Logically, giving someone the best Christmas doesn’t make them fall in love with you. But isn’t that exactly what I was trying to do? How could I tell Waylen

that though? What if things don’t work out with Deidra?

I shook my head, trying to find the right answer.

“Do you want to know what I really think? No bullsh. t?” I asked my son, and he smiled at me,

nodding his little head.

I usually try to tell Waylen the truth as much as I can. I got secrets because of the club. There are

also things he’s just too young for. But he knows when I say “no bullsh.it“, I’m about to tell him how

it is, treat him like a grown–up.

“I think that Dra already wants to be your mom,” I said honestly. “I think she’s afraid to admit that

because of me, though. She loves you somethin‘ fierce, bud. But things aren’t that simple either. I

don’t want you to get your hopes up. We can try to give her the best Christmas ever, but that

doesn’t guarantee us anything.”

“Is that why you’ve been flirting with her?” he asked and I felt the heat rush to my face. “Chance

says that you guys make googly eyes at each other a lot. Like his mom and dad.”

I let out a small laugh at that.

“I’m trying to make her comfortable with me,” I replied.

“Granny told Gramps that you’re in love with Dra,” Waylen stated, making me choke on air.

“Granny needs to keep her mouth shut,” I grumbled

“I think you love her too,” he said, surprising me. “I always thought that.”

“You have?” I asked, blurting out the question like I wasn’t talking to a seven–year–old.

“You always looked at her differently,” he told me as he snuggled his favorite blanket to his chest. “Like the way that Gramps looks at Granny.”

I felt more heat rush to my face over my son’s words.

“How about you just focus on being a good boy for Santa, and let me worry about Dra, okay?” I

“I’ll be right back,” I said before kissing his head and slipping out of the room.

Deidra was waiting for me at the door. She had her boots and coat on already. When she heard me getting closer, she turned around, those dark curls bouncing around her face. She smiled at me. A big smile. Something I never got from her before.
