Chapter 118
“Whatever is the matter, sister?” Tara asks, feigning utter shock. “I’ve been in the main ballroom this entire time. Half the guests here can vouch for me.”
Several socialites immediately nod in agreement. “It’s true. Tara was just chatting with us a few moments ago.”
“You’re lying!” Jade screams hysterically, trying to lunge at Tara. “It was you—”
Evan intercepts her, grabbing her arm and shoving her back, his eyes filled with pure disgust. “Enough! Haven’t you caused enough of a scene?”
Jade looks up at him as if she’s been struck by lightning. “Evan… you don’t believe me?”
He drops her arm like it’s diseased. “The evidence is right in front of us. What is there to believe? Take a good look at yourself.”
“No!” Jade collapses to the floor, her makeup ruined by tears. “You can’t do this to me!”
Eleanor’s face is gray with fury. She is on the verge of collapsing. To receive such a humiliating scandal as a birthday gift in front of the city’s elite is the ultimate disgrace.
“Grandma, you have to believe me! I was framed! Tara—”
“Shut your mouth!” Eleanor roars, silencing the room. “Have you not embarrassed us enough? Security! Lock her in her room!”
Two guards immediately haul a thrashing Jade to her feet. As she is dragged past Tara, she snarls like a rabid dog. “I will make you pay for this!”
Damn it, she walked right into Tara’s trap!
Tara merely smiles, leaning in to whisper so only Jade can hear. “You brought this entirely on yourself.”
The rest of the Dennis family stands frozen, completely bewildered. They want to defend Jade, but there is zero evidence to support her wild accusations. Why was she even in a room alone with a degenerate like Quinton? The investigation will have to wait until the guests leave.
Though the immediate chaos is contained, the whispers continue to spread. Eleanor’s grand birthday banquet is officially a catastrophic laughingstock.
Once the final guest departs, Eleanor orders Jade to be brought before her for questioning.
Kneeling on the hardwood floor, Jade weeps pitifully. “Grandma, it was Tara! She drugged the room and shoved me inside!”
“You can’t just hurl wild accusations without proof,” Tara says softly, playing the flawless

choice but to sue for defamation.”
Eleanor slams her hand on the table. “Exactly! We operate on facts, and dozens of people saw Tara in the ballroom!”
