Suddenly, a memory clicks into place. Not too long ago, while visiting a clandestine apothecary in the outskirts of the city, Tara had spotted Jade sneaking around the premises. At the time, she hadn't cared enough to investigate, but in hindsight, the timing is glaringly suspicious. Jade's presence there is almost certainly linked to the acquisition of this rare toxin.

Without wasting a second, she shoots a text to Joey. As her elite secret investigator and most trusted personal bodyguard, he is the best man to dig up the dirt.

"Jade, didn't I tell you not to act so impulsively? Look what happened! Your little poisoning stunt almost blew up in our faces!" Jovani is practically hyperventilating. When she found out Jade's plot was nearly exposed by Tara, she almost had a heart attack. If they had been caught red-handed, Jade would be sitting in a jail cell right now.

Jade crosses her arms, stamping her foot in frustration. "Mom, I just wanted the old bat gone! As long as she's breathing, you're stuck hiding in the shadows like some dirty secret."

Eleanor has always despised Jovani. Since the matriarch holds real power within the Dennis family, Charles and Deanna have to respect her authority. With Eleanor in the picture, Charles will never divorce Deanna, meaning Jade is forever stuck with the label of an adopted daughter. It infuriates her. Why should she bow to Tara? Jovani pinches the bridge of her nose. "You are entirely too impatient. Tara is not some clueless amateur. Did you really think your clumsy little tricks would slip past her? Otherwise, she might have already exposed our relationship!"

Thinking about the three boys fills Jovani with a twisted sense of triumph. She can't wait for the day Deanna realizes that her precious adopted daughter is actually the biological child of her husband and his mistress. Even better, Deanna's three biological sons are completely wrapped around Jade's finger, blindly destroying their real sister for the sake of a fake one. It is poetic justice. Jovani is biding her time, carefully plotting her official entry into the Dennis family once Charles is entirely under her spell.

Jade looks reluctant but eventually nods. "Fine, Mom. I'll play nice. But what if they trace the poison back to me?"

Jovani pats her hand soothingly. "Relax. We left no obvious trail. The supplier I use operates strictly in the shadows. No ordinary investigator will ever find them."
