He might be impressed, but the doctor isn't about to endorse unverified medication.
Tara sees right through Jade's little scheme. The girl is desperately clinging to the supplement issue, likely hoping to frame her for the poisoning. Tara gives a dry laugh. "This is the medicine I gave Grandma. Feel free to take it to the hospital lab and run a full chemical panel." She confidently hands the bottle over to Dr. Halloway, effectively shutting down the room. No one dares to utter another word of doubt.
Jade bristles at being so effortlessly outmaneuvered. Furious but unable to lash out, she forces herself to swallow her anger.
"I trust my own flesh and blood. I know she would never harm me," Eleanor declares, her voice tired but firm. "I need to rest. Everyone out. Tara, stay with me."
The phrase 'flesh and blood' violently triggers Jade's insecurities. She is a part of this family too! She is the beloved granddaughter! This old hag... Jade silently vows to put her in the ground permanently.
Once the room clears, Tara sits quietly with her grandmother, offering a few soothing words and instructing her to continue taking the supplements to rebuild her strength. Eleanor, now placing absolute trust in her biological granddaughter, agrees without hesitation. When Tara promises to personally investigate the poisoning, the old woman gives her full blessing.
With the toxins finally purged from her system, Eleanor is left exhausted. Tara tucks her in and quietly steps out of the room. As she heads down the hallway, she spots Marian carrying a ceramic bowl toward the kitchen.
"This isn't something an ordinary person can just buy off the street. Jade really is a ruthless piece of work," Tara mutters, a lethal chill flashing in her eyes. It's Desert Bloom Toxin, an exceptionally rare extract. While it doesn't kill instantly, it's a devastatingly effective slow-acting agent. It silently erodes the victim's organs, and by the time the symptoms manifest, it's usually too late.
To think Jade used something so insidious on her own grandmother. What is her endgame? Is she simply gunning for the inheritance, or is she that consumed by jealousy over Tara's bond with Eleanor?
A suffocating wave of anger tightens Tara's chest. She won't let Jade walk away from this. The girl needs to pay. But to take her down properly, Tara needs bulletproof evidence. Striking now would only alert the snake in the grass. She takes a deep breath, letting her mind settle into cold, calculated planning.
