"Get to the point," Tara says, her patience wearing thin. She has zero tolerance for people she despises.

"Let me remind you that you belong to this company, which means you follow my orders!" Alec repeats, his voice dripping with authority. He has said it so many times she is practically sick of hearing it.

"And?" Tara crosses her arms, raising an eyebrow. He talks as if she signed her soul away.

"I signed Jade up for the modeling competition, and I've arranged for you to go with her so you two can look out for each other," Alec dictates. "Jade has incredible potential on the runway. The only reason I'm letting you tag along is because she begged me to include you. I'm going to personally design her wardrobe. She is going to dominate this competition. All you have to do is stay out of her way and not embarrass her."

He rattles on, every word a glowing testament to Jade's perfection and his own brilliance. He acts as if letting Tara participate is a holy blessing. In reality, he just wants her there as a plain backdrop to make Jade look more radiant.

"Don't do me any favors," Tara scoffs. "I don't need Jade begging for me, and I certainly won't be her little sidekick."

Alec's face darkens. "You ungrateful brat! This is a company mandate. You don't have a choice. Without Dennis Media's resources, you are nothing! If you just play nice, maybe I'll throw some better jobs your way."
