The Scorned Heiress: No More Mercy novel Chapter 227

Before walking away, Jade caught the whispers of the crowd tearing Lucinda's reputation to shreds. A thrill of deep satisfaction washes over her.

Can that arrogant bitch still hold onto her title now? Jade is determined to drag her off that pedestal, bury her in vicious rumors, and force the Dennis family to permanently sever the marriage alliance.

She tracks Lucinda down on one of the yacht's open decks, where the ocean wind whips fiercely against the railings.

"Lucinda, what are you doing all the way out here? The wind is so strong. Wouldn't you be more comfortable inside?" Jade's voice drips with feigned concern, but the sinister undertone makes the hairs on the back of Lucinda's neck stand up.

"Why are you following me?" Lucinda snaps, her brow furrowing. She rarely finds someone repulsive, but Jade is the glaring exception. She came out here to breathe, to let the ocean breeze clear the suffocating anger from her chest. She knows perfectly well that if she tries to explain what just happened to anyone—especially Jake—they won't believe her. The woman is simply too skilled at hiding her true nature. Now, the mere sight of Jade instantly ruins her fleeting moment of peace.

"I followed you because I'm worried about you," Jade lies, flashing another sickeningly sweet smile. "What if you get so upset you decide to jump? What would I do then?"

"It's just the two of us out here. You can drop the act," Lucinda replies, her usually soft features hardening into a rare scowl.
