Lucinda watches her supposed fiancé vanish into the distance, abandoning her right after she nearly drowned in the ocean just to chase after his adopted sister. What kind of twisted logic is this? If word gets out, high society will laugh her out of the room. They will see her as a pathetic future wife who holds absolutely zero weight in the Dennis family. There is simply no other way to explain why Jake is so utterly heartless, leaving her trembling and in shock to cater to Jade.
Taking a deep breath, Lucinda forces her racing heart to steady. She reclaims her signature elegance and walks over to Tara. "Thank you for what you did," she says smoothly. "If you hadn't arrived exactly when you did, I would have been in serious trouble." Her tone is understated, but anyone with half a brain can catch her true meaning.
"It wasn't a coincidence," Tara replies with brutal honesty. "I knew exactly what she was going to do."
Lucinda blinks, caught off guard by the sheer bluntness. She hesitates for a second before offering a wry smile. "I finally understand what you must go through. Your brothers are certainly..." She trails off, too polite to finish the thought. She doesn't want to overstep, unsure of where Tara truly stands with the men of the Dennis family.
"They're absolute idiots," Tara says flatly. "I'm pretty sure they share half a brain cell."
"Exactly!" Tricia chimes in as she walks over with Bianca. "They throw away a brilliant, gorgeous blood relative just to fawn over that adopted fake. I swear she must have them under some kind of mind-control spell."
