Jade looks up at Tara through her lashes, her hands trembling slightly as she offers the glass of orange juice. Her eyes shine with practiced vulnerability, holding Tara's gaze with unwavering expectation. Anyone watching would think she is a devoted younger sister trying desperately to mend a fractured family bond.
Tara crosses her arms, looking at the woman before her with pure amusement. Her stunning eyes, which need no makeup to captivate a room, dance with a cynical, mocking light. They sparkle like stars against a midnight sky, a natural beauty that only makes Jade hate her more.
What the hell is she looking at? Jade thinks, her skin crawling under Tara's piercing stare. If she didn't need this alibi, she would never subject herself to this humiliation.
"I know you really shouldn’t have hit Jake and Evan earlier, but I understand why you did it. They haven't exactly been fair to you either," Jade adds softly, pushing the glass forward another inch.
"You're dressed like a zebra, yet you certainly know how to run your mouth," Danny drawls before Tara can even respond.
"Excuse me?" Jade freezes, her brain short-circuiting. Her subconscious thrills at the fact that this untouchable billionaire is speaking to her, and she instinctively flutters her eyelashes at him, projecting a subtle, seductive charm.
"Why are you looking at me like that? Do not think I'm easy prey like Evan. Keep your distance," Danny says, his voice dripping with disgust as he takes a deliberate step back. "Save your cheap tricks."
His utter revulsion hits Jade like a physical blow, draining the color from her face. In her entire life, no man has ever spoken to her with such blatant contempt. Usually, when people attack her, she writes it off as jealous women hating her beauty. Being publicly humiliated by a man of his caliber makes her want the floor to swallow her whole.
