The Scorned Heiress: No More Mercy novel Chapter 253

Tara looks at Jade's smug expression and lets out a soft, mocking laugh. She casually brushes a speck of non-existent dust off her sleeve, treating Jade's grand reveal as if it were entirely beneath her notice.

"Good news? I wasn't aware the Dennis and Jewell families were celebrating anything. Don't tell me you and Evan are actually together now?" Tara asks, her voice dripping with icy disdain.

Though she poses it as a question, she already knows the answer. Honestly, she has to hand it to Jade. Tara assumed the girl was brewing some elaborate scheme to destroy her reputation or frame her for some massive scandal. She never expected Jade's master plan was simply to use Lana to drag Evan into her own bed.

Does Jade seriously think Tara still cares about Evan? Does she really believe stealing a cheating jerk is some massive flex?

Evan panics. He tries to rip his arm away, but Jade's manicured fingers dig into his sleeve like a vice.

"Tara, it's not what you think. Let me explain—" Evan stammers, desperation bleeding into his voice. But he stops short, realizing he has absolutely zero defense.

Seeing Evan trip over himself to appease Tara sets Jade's blood boiling. She grips his arm even tighter, her eyes welling up with practiced tears as she slips right back into her victim persona.

"Evan, don't forget what happened between us. You promised my mother and brothers," Jade whimpers.

Lana quickly steps up to back her. "Evan, Jade is a wonderful girl. She's miles ahead of certain other women. You need to appreciate what you have."

With his own mother boxing him in, the words die in Evan's throat. He has always folded under Lana's pressure, and tonight is no different.

Evan's eyes go bloodshot. The sight of Tara nestled so comfortably against Danny shatters his remaining composure.

"Tara, what exactly is your relationship with him?" Evan demands, his voice cracking with barely contained rage.

"Whatever it is, it's absolutely none of your business," Tara fires back.

Her words twist like a knife in his ribs. A suffocating wave of pain crashes over him, stealing the breath from his lungs. It is only in this agonizing, breathless moment that Evan finally realizes the truth—he is still entirely, hopelessly in love with Tara.
