Jovani and Jade had suffered in the shadows over the years, and it genuinely breaks Charles's heart. He had already been brainstorming ways to secretly transfer a few prime real estate properties and commercial storefronts to Jade. Having Deanna bring it up first is a massive stroke of luck—it saves him the trouble of suggesting it and completely avoids any suspicion.
"I understand that, but Tara is our biological daughter, and we still have three sons who aren't married yet. Shouldn't we also—" Deanna starts, maternal instinct momentarily kicking in.
Even though she favors Jade, dealing with inheritance on this scale forces her to think of the children she actually gave birth to.
"Don't mention that ungrateful brat to me!" Charles snaps, his face darkening with rage. "She's hoarding thirty percent of the company's shares and refuses to surrender a single cent! Are you seriously worried she's going to starve?"
As a man, Charles's emotional attachment to his children is strictly tied to obedience and legacy. The sheer mention of Tara's financial independence infuriates him.
"And why are you worrying about the boys? The entire Dennis Group will eventually belong to them anyway. Jade is a daughter, which is exactly why we need to secure her future now," Charles barks, flipping the script to make Deanna feel guilty. "What is your problem? You're the one who brought this up, and now you're second-guessing it? If you're going to hesitate, then we won't give her anything."
"No, no, that's not what I meant at all! I was just thinking out loud," Deanna backpedals instantly. "I already promised Lana and Evan. If we back out now, we'll be the laughingstock of our social circle."
