Jake flinches at the mention of more evidence. He knows Tara never bluffs; if she says she has leverage, she has it. While he has lost all sympathy for Jade, he cannot allow the Dennis Group's stock to tank any further. If the company takes another PR hit, his position as the future heir will be in serious jeopardy.
"Tara, I believe you," Jake interjects smoothly, cutting off the reporters. "It is entirely Jade's fault. Please, for the sake of the Dennis family and for my sake, find it in your heart to forgive her this once."
Whether Tara actually forgives Jade is irrelevant to him; he just needs to stop the bleeding and protect the corporation.
Jade seethes. Why is her brother throwing all the blame onto her? She is the victim here! But she quickly rationalizes his behavior, convincing herself that Jake is just playing the PR game to protect her from the media's wrath. Comforted by her own delusion, she relaxes.
"Fine," Tara says, giving Jake a long, calculating look. "Then we're done here. I don't want to waste any more of my time."
