Alec's lingering anger toward his infuriating biological sister was beginning to fade, but Jade's words instantly reignite his indignation. He remembers when he and Tara actually had a good relationship. When she first returned after being missing for years, they got along well. Her sudden disappearance back then had devastated the family, leaving them sleepless and frantic. So when she finally came home, they were all thrilled and eager to make up for lost time. Even though she stubbornly refused to say where she had been or why she never contacted them, the family never pressed her. They accommodated her tantrums and gave her space.
But what did they get in return? Tara shows zero appreciation for their concern. Instead, she constantly makes things hard for Jade. To Alec, Jade's arrival was a ray of sunshine that drove away the gloom Tara’s disappearance caused. Jade brought joy and warmth back to the Dennis family. Sure, managing her entertainment career is a headache, but the happiness she brings is undeniable. Tara is just too petty and jealous.
"Jade, stop bringing up that brat. It ruins the mood," Alec finally mutters. He genuinely wanted to bury the hatchet with Tara, but he refuses to keep kissing her ass when she only gives him the cold shoulder.
"Exactly. If Tara wants to be so unforgiving, let's just pretend we don't have this sister," Nikolai chimes in from the next seat.
Nikolai relates to Alec’s frustration. He and Tara used to be close, too. Back then, she knew he stayed up late studying law, so she constantly brewed him focus-enhancing teas. Knowing he suffered from neck and shoulder pain, she even learned a specialized massage technique just for him. Honestly, whenever his shoulders ache from sitting too long now, Nikolai desperately misses those massages. None of the expensive professionals he hires now can replicate her touch. Even when Jade volunteers to rub his shoulders, it just isn't the same. Tara also used to formulate a custom blend of aromatic healing serum that worked wonders on his tense muscles.
But now that they are at odds, all those perks are gone. The loss makes Nikolai resent his biological sister's cruelty even more. They are family—why can't she just accept Jade? Why does she have to be so petty over every little thing?
He had planned to visit her at the hospital today, hoping to find an excuse to reconcile, but she wasn't even there. His good intentions were thrown right back in his face. It is no wonder he favors Jade a little more.
"Both of you, stop talking behind her back. Tara is still your biological sister," Deanna snaps from the passenger seat, a sour feeling settling in her chest as she listens to her sons tear Tara down.
