Instead of taking offense, Tara leans back, crosses her arms, and watches him with pure, unadulterated amusement. The man is putting on a spectacular clown show, and she is enjoying every second of it.
"Sorry to break it to you," Tara says, a mocking smirk playing on her lips, "but Danny is better than you in literally every conceivable way. There is no need to be so aggressively jealous."
"How is he better than me?!" Evan demands, his voice cracking.
"Well, for starters, he is strikingly more handsome," Tara says, ticking the points off on her fingers. "He is taller, his body is infinitely better, his bank account is massively larger, he is vastly more competent, and he holds absolute power." She leans in slightly, her eyes dancing with mischief. "He is more dominant, he actually has a spine, and he understands women on a level you couldn't even comprehend. He is just better. Are you seriously oblivious to this?"
Watching Evan's face turn a dangerous shade of purple is incredibly satisfying. He practically begged to be humiliated.
"Even if he is perfect, he is still going to dump you!" Evan screams, completely losing his mind to jealousy. "It's a temporary fling! You have no future with him!"
"So what?" Tara shrugs lazily. "Modern relationships aren't about holding hands until you die. It's about enjoying the ride. Do you have any idea how many women would kill for just one night with him? Why would I overthink it?"
"You are delusional!" Evan bellows, slamming a hand on the table. "You are completely out of your mind! Wake up!"
"Why would I want to wake up?" Tara fires back, completely unhinged now. "I have a billionaire powerhouse who looks like a god wrapped around my finger. He treats me perfectly and is ten thousand times the man you will ever be." She is having way too much fun running her mouth, knowing Danny isn't around to hold her to these claims.
Evan's chest heaves as his eyes turn completely bloodshot. The reality finally crashes down on him—she is really, truly gone. She doesn't love him anymore. He always believed Tara was above being shallow, that she didn't care about money, status, or looks. Wait a minute, he thinks frantically. He has money! He has looks! He’s only slightly less impressive than Danny Calhoun!
