The Scorned Heiress: No More Mercy novel Chapter 362

"We're old friends. Is all this pageantry really necessary?" Tara laughs softly, though she politely accepts the gift.

She never realized this man had such a flair for ceremony. Back in their school days, friends always described him as a block of wood—completely oblivious to romance. As a student, he only cared about studying, and as an adult, he is married to his work. If he wasn't, he wouldn't still be a thirty-one-year-old bachelor.

"It's a good thing you're back. A gift is only natural," Nathaniel replies, his expression carefully neutral, giving away nothing of his inner thoughts.

"It's not my first time here, you know. I know my way around, and I'm not planning on sticking around forever," she reminds him.

"I understand. We just need to handle the current crisis. Whatever happens after that is up to the Dennis Group's own fate."

Nathaniel knows perfectly well that a woman as fiercely independent and free-spirited as Tara can never be tied down. She will undoubtedly move on to bigger things in the future, but for now, she is exactly where she needs to be. Shaking off his thoughts, he pivots the conversation. "By the way, Mr. Dennis managed to force Jade into the company. She started a few days ago."

"That makes sense. She has no market left in the entertainment industry, so her only option is to leech off the Dennis family's connections," Tara says dismissively. However, it does strike her as odd. The shareholders have always vehemently opposed letting Jade anywhere near the Dennis Group. Why would they suddenly cave?
